한국인 대학생과 중국인 유학생의 준말 사용

국문 초록

본 연구는 외국인 유학생들의 준말 사용을 살펴보기 위해 중국인 유학생들과 한국인 유학생들의 준말에 대한 사용 정도, 준말에 대한 필요성 인식, 준말에 대한 어휘 인식과 어휘 지식, 준말 처리 전략 등을 비교하였다. 본 연구의 연구 참여자는 국내 4개 대학에 재학 중인 20대 2학년, 3학년, 4학년 남녀 학생들로 총 84명(중국인 유학생 31명, 한국인 대학생 53명)이었다. 연구 결과, 중국인 유학생과 한국인 대학생은 대학 생활과 일상생활에서 준말의 필요성을 높게 인식하고 있었으며 준말에 대한 관심도에서는 중국인 유학생이, 준말 사용도에서는 한국인 대학생이 더 높은 수준을 나타났다. 준말에 대한 어휘 인식과 실제 지식에서는 중국인 유학생이 한국 인 대학생에 비해 매우 낮은 수치를 보였다. 중국인 유학생이 한국인 유학생의 준말 어휘 인식의 20%, 준말에 대한 어휘 지식의 7% 수준에도 미치지 못하는 것을 확인했다. 또한, 준말 처리 전략에서 중국인 유학생은 한국인 대학생과는 다른 전략을 선호하고 있으며 준말을 스스로 처리하는 데 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 연구 결과는 중국인 유학생의 경우는 준말에 대한 관심도에 비해 실제 준말 사용에서는 한국인 대학생과 같은 수준으로 사용하지 못하고 있어 중국인 유학생에게 준말에 대한 적극적인 교수와 학습의 기회가 제공되어야 함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study investigated how Korean college students(KS) and Chinese international students(CS) had different use and need for Korean abbreviated expressions, their perception on the abbreviated expressions, and their processing strategies to acquire the meaning of unknown abbreviated expressions. The 84 participants(31 Chinese and 53 Korean) were recruited from 4 universities in Korea. They were in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year when they participated in the research. A survey consist of 3 parts was conducted for analysis. The survey included the items regarding the participants’ interest and use of abbreviated expressions, recognition on 30 abbreviated expressions, and their processing strategies when they encountered the unknown abbreviated expressions. The results shows that CS and KS both recognized the higher demand of abbreviated expressions in college life and daily life. However, although CS expressed higher interests in Korean abbreviated expressions, they were not using abbreviated expressions as much as their counterparts were. And even their perception and knowledge on 15 frequent abbreviated expressions in college life and 15 expressions in daily life were much lower by less than the 20% of KS’ perception and the 8% of KS’ knowledge. In addition, the word processing strategies used by CS were different from ones used by KS, which were not helpful for CS to capture the meaning of unknown abbreviated expression. The results imply that attention on teaching Korean abbreviated expressions for CS is needed to support their successful communication in and out of college life.
