1970년대 주간지에 나타난 법의 대중서사화와 스캔들

국문 초록

1960년대 후반에 창간되어 1970년대에 큰 인기를 끈 주간지인 선데이서울, 주간경향, 주간여성은 모두 흥미본위의 대중지이지만 구체적인 성격에는 차이가 있었다. 비슷한 시기에 선데이서울과 주간경향은 각각 <인생극장법률상담>, <이런 함정에서>라는 코너를 통해 법률 상담의 성격을 표방한 기사들을 연재하였다. 한편 주간여성 또한 법률 상담을 내세우지는 않았지만 <고백석>이라는 코너를 통해 유사한 성격의 기사를 게재하였다. 사적인 내용을 주로 다룬 이 주간지들이 공적 영역에 속하는 ‘법’을 끌어온 데에는 나름의 이유가 있을 것이라 판단 하에, 본고에서는 그처럼 1970년대의 주간지들이 ‘법’을 수용한 이유 및 그 방식에 대해 알아보기 위하여 위 세 코너를중점적으로 분석하였다. 그 세부적인 양상에는 차이가 있었지만 선데이서울과 주간경향이 법을 수용한 양상은 법자체보다는 그와 관련이 있는 애정 서사의 ‘스캔들’로서의 성격 및 그를 통해 확보할 수 있는 대중성에 초점이 맞추어져 있었다. 이는 ‘법률 상담’을 전면에 내세우지 않은 주간여성의 상담 지면과의 유사성을 통해서도 확인할 수있었다. 하나의 ‘사건’을 중심으로 한다는 공통점을 스캔들과 공유하며, ‘법’은 1970년대의 대중오락지 안에서 대중들이 흥미를 느낄 만한 서사로 재구성되어 ‘가십’의 일종으로서 수용되었다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

First published in the late 1960s and gained huge popularity in the 1970s, the weekly magazines Sunday Seoul, Weekly Kyunghyang, and Weekly Woman were all popular magazines, but there were differences in specific characteristics. Sunday Seoul and Weekly Kyunghyang published serial articles that stood for legal advice through sections named “Life Theater: Legal Advice” and “In This Trap”. Similarly, Weekly Woman also printed articles of similar characters through a section called “Place for Confession”. Judging that there should be reasons why these weekly magazines, which mainly dealt with private contents, drew “law” belonging to the public domain, this study focused on the three sections to find out why and how the weekly magazines in the 1970s accepted law. There were differences in detailed aspects, but the acceptance of law in Sunday Seoul and Weekly Kyunghyang commonly focused on the scandalous characteristic of the narrative related to love affairs and the popularity that could be guaranteed through the narratives rather than “law” itself. This could also be confirmed through the similarity with the advice page of Weekly Woman, which did not bring “legal advice” to the forefront of the section. It can be said that, sharing the common point with “scandal” that focuses on one event, “law” was reinterpreted into popular narratives that the public would be interested in and accepted as a sort of “gossip” in the popular magazines of the 1970s.
