조선시대 자복사찰(資福寺刹) 88사의 시기적 변동양상과 위상 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 1407년(조선 태종 7)에 지정된 자복사찰(資福寺刹) 88사 중 조선후기 18세기까지 존속한 주요 사찰(‘18세기 존속 사찰’)을 중심으로 88사의 존폐(存廢) 여부와 존속한 사찰의 위상과 동향을 고찰하였다. 그리고 19 세기 이후 폐사되었지만 최근에 그 가치가 제고된 사지(寺址)를 검토하였다. 태종 대에 지정된 자복사찰 88사는 당시 전국 지방의 명찰(名刹)로서 16세기에 56사, 18세기에는 36사만이 존속했다. 존속한 사찰의 사회적 위상은 크게 국가 혹은 왕실과 연계된 명찰, 불교계의 상징적 명찰, 지방사회 속에서의 명찰로 나누어 볼 수 있었고, 19세기 이후 폐사된 사찰 중 최근에 그 가치를 높게 인정받게 된 사지(寺址)도있었다. 존속한 사찰을 통해서는 사회 저변에 불교신앙이 견고히 유지되었다는 사실을, 그리고 폐사찰을 통해서는 불교계의 열악한 사회적 환경을 반영한 결과로 볼 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

In this study, among the 88 Jabok temples designated in 1407 (7th year of King Taejong’s reign), the main temples that survived until the 18th century in the late Joseon Dynasty (’18th century surviving temples’) were the focus of this study, and the status and trends of surviving temples were examined. In addition, it were reviewed that the temple sites, which has been ruined since the 19th century, but whose value has recently increased. The 88 Jabok Temples designated during the Taejong era were famous in the entire country at that time, and only 56 temples survived in the 16th century and 36 temples in the 18th century. The social status of the temples that have survived can be divided into famous temples linked to the state or royal family, symbolic famous temples of Joseon Buddhism, and famous temples in local society. It can be seen the Buddhist belief was firmly maintained at the bottom of society through the surviving temples, and a result of the poor environment society of Joseon Buddhism through the ruined ones,
