국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 온라인 플랫폼과 소셜 미디어를 통해 확산되는 사회참여적 창작 예술의 확산과 그 역할을 조명해 보는데 있다. 이를 위해 2019년 시작된 홍콩 정부의 <범죄인 인도법> 반대 시민운동 과정에서 창작되고 온라인 플랫폼과 소셜 미디어를 통해 광범위하게 전파된 창작 예술작품들을 분석한다. 특히, 사회운동 이론과 관련선행 연구를 기반으로 각각의 창작 예술작품 이미지가 표상하는 메시지와 여기에 함축된 의미를 분석하는데 있어사회 참여적 창작 예술의 기능을 1) 동원 기능, 2) 정보 전달 기능, 3) 집단 정체성 조성 기능, 4) 프레이밍 기능, 이 네 가지로 구분하여 살펴본다. 본 연구는 온라인 플랫폼과 소셜 미디어를 통해 전파, 확산되는 창작 예술이 사회운동 논쟁의 레퍼토리(repertoires of contention) 형성과 구축에 미치는 영향을 최근의 사건을 통해 세밀하게살펴본다는 점에서 관련 연구에 기여한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to shed light on the recent spread of socially participatory creative art and its role through online platforms and social media. To this end, we analyze visual works of art created in the process of the Hong Kong government’s anti-criminal extradition law, which began in 2019, and disseminated widely through online platforms and social media. In particular, we draw on social movement theory and research in analyzing the message represented by each creative artwork image and the meaning implied therein. We distinguish the roles of social participatory creative art into 1) mobilization, 2) information delivery, 3) collective identity formation, 4) framing function. Taken together, this study contributes to related research by illuminating varying effects of creative art propagating and spreading through online platforms and social media, with a focus on how it plays a critical role in the formation and construction of repertoires of content in social movements.
