국문 초록

목적 본 연구의 목적은 능동적 시민성 교육 실행 시 사회과 가치 학습 활용이 갖는 의미를 분석하고 활용 방안을 제안하는 데 있다. 방법 이를 위하여 문헌 연구 방법을 활용하여 능동적 시민성 교육과 사회과 가치 학습과의 관련성을 분석하였고, 능동적 시민성 교육 실행에 있어 기존의 사회과 가치 학습 방법이 갖는 의미와 한계를 각각 살펴보았다. 또한 이상의 논의들을 바탕으로 초등학교에서 실행될 수 있는 능동적 시민성 교육을 위한 사회과 교수학습과정안을 새롭게 제안하였다. 결과 능동적 시민성은 민주적 가치를 추구하는 과정 속에서 자율적으로 발휘되는 역량이므로 가치 학습과의 적합성이 높으며, 사회과 가치 학습은 능동적 시민성 교육 실행 시 다음과 같은 점에 유의하여 활용되어야 한다. 첫째, 특정 가치를 일방적으로 주입하기보다는 학생 스스로 민주적 가치의 중요성을 인식하도록 한다. 둘째, 민주적 가치 인식이 실천적 행위로 발전할 수 있도록 인지적 사고 또는 정서적 공감의 과정을 경험하게 해야 한다. 셋째, 민주적 가치 추구를 위한 자신만의 실천 계획을 세워 실천 행위를 경험해보게 한다. 결론 사회과 가치 학습은 능동적 시민성 교육 실행 시 적절하게 활용될 필요가 있다. 이상의 연구 결과는 사회과 가치 학습을 활용한 능동적 시민성 교육 현장 사례 연구 등의 다양한 후속 연구와 실천으로 확산되어야 한다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study was intended to analyze the meaning of social studies value learning in implementing active citizenship education and to suggest its applications. Methods To that end, the meaning of social studies value learning in implementing active citizenship education was investigated and its applications and limitations of existing social studies value learning were explored by analyzing prior researches with use of a literature research approach, and based on the results ideal cases of learning in class were constructed and suggested. Results Since active citizenship is a competency displayed in the process of pursuing democratic values, it has a high suitability for value learning and thus social studies value learning must be used by keeping the following points in mind in implementing active citizenship education. First, it is suggested to encourage students to recognize the importance of democratic values by themselves rather than to unilaterally inject specific values. Second, it is suggested to allows them to experience the process of cognitive thinking or emotional empathy so that their recognition of democratic values can develop into practices. Third, it is suggested to let them make their own action plans in pursuit of democratic values and experience practices. Conclusions Social studies value learning needs to be used appropriately in implementing active citizenship education. It is anticipated that the aforementioned results must lead to various follow-up studies such as case studies of active citizenship education in school using social studies value learning and studies of its effectiveness.
