초보상담자가 경험하는 윤리적 이슈

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 초보상담자들이 상담과정에서 경험하는 윤리적 이슈가 무엇인지 밝히고자 하였다. 방법 본 연구를 위해 J지역과 D지역 소재의 상담관련 대학원 재학이상, 3년 이하의 경력을 가진 초보상담자 12명을 대상으로, 총 3회에 걸쳐 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 실시하고 자료를 분석하였다. 분석결과 9개의 영역, 19개의 범주, 52개의 개념이 도출되었다. 결과 주요 결과를 살펴보면, ‘내담자 보호’(범주: 내담자 보호의 어려움 등), ‘사전 동의’(범주: 내담자에게 충분히 설명하고 사전 동의 받는지 의문이 듦 등), ‘비밀보장’(범주: 초보상담자로서 불안을 감소시키려는 욕구와 비밀보장이 갈등됨 등), ‘상담기록물 관리’(범주: 기록물 관리가 비밀보장을 어렵게 할까 우려됨 등), ‘상담자 전문역량’(범주: 전문역량이 부족하나 성장하고자 사례를 진행하며 갈등함 등), ‘상담자 보호’(범주: 위기사례에서 상담자가 보호받지 못함 등), ‘상담자의 자격관리’(범주: 수련기관과 프로그램을 신뢰할 수 없음 등), ‘수퍼비전 관계’(범주: 다중관계로 상담에서 힘듦을 말하지 못함 등), ‘운영기관과의 관계’(범주: 기관방침과 내담자 복지가 상충됨 등) 영역이 추출되었다. 결론 본 연구결과를 토대로 초보상담자의 상담과정에서 경험되는 다양한 윤리적 이슈를 밝히고, 이러한 이슈에 내적논쟁을 심화하거나 완화하는 환경적 요인을 탐색적으로 드러냈다. 마지막으로 초보상담자의 적응과 윤리적 발달을 위한 제언, 연구의 시사점과 한계점에 대해 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study attempted to clarify the ethical issues experienced by novice counselors during the counseling process. Methods For this study, 12 novice counselors with 3 years or less of counselling experience and graduate school experience in J and D regions were interviewed with three focus groups and analyzed the data. Results From the results analyzed, 9 areas, 19 categories, and 52 concepts were derived. The main concepts are ‘Client protection’ (category: Difficulty relating to client protection, etc.), ‘Informed consent’ (category: Doubt about whether client was given enough explanation before informed consent, etc.), and ‘Confidentiality’ (category: Dilemma between desire to relieve anxiety as a novice counselor and concern of confidentiality, etc.), ‘Management of counseling records’ (Category: Worries if client confidentiality would be in crisis because of the management of consult records, etc.), ‘Expert competency of counselors’ (category: Conflict between recognition of incompetence and desire of self-improvement, etc.), ‘Counselor protection’ (category: Difficulty in counselor protection in critical situations, etc.), ‘Qualification management of counselors’ (category: Mistrust in training institutions and training programs, etc.), ‘Relationship in supervision’ (category: Difficulty in discussing hardships in counseling due to multiple relationship with supervisor, etc.), and ‘Relationships in operating institutions’ (Category: Conflict between institutions’ policies and welfare of client, etc.) were extracted. Conclusions Based on the results of this study, suggestions for adaptation and ethical development of novice counselors were discussed among with the implications and limitations of the study.
