영화 ‘완벽한 타인’의 등장인물에 대한 중년기 위기 분석

국문 초록

연구는 영화 ‘완벽한 타인’에 등장하는 중년기 성인들의 위기를 분석하여, 그 시기를 지나는 사람들을 도울 수 있는 방법 중 하나로 융의 분석심리학이 설명하는 개성화(자기실현, Individuation Self realization)과정에 대한 이해를 돕고자 한다. 등장인물 6명을 대상으로 그들의 중년기 위기를 칼 융의 분석심리학 이론을 적용하여 분석하였다. 등장인물들의 역할에 관한 정보를 중심으로 역할 중심 매트릭스(Role - centered matrix) 분석방법으로 정리하였다. 연구결과 중년기 등장인물 6명이 겪는 중년기 위기 증상으로는 외도, 자아개념에 대한 타격, 퇴사, 이혼, 무리한 투자, 일에 지치고 신경질적, 동성애 성적취향 추구, 가슴 성형수술 시도였다. 이러한 위기 증상은 6명 모두 중년기를 맞아 겪게 되는 심리적 구조의 타격에 따른 것에 그 원인을 두고 있었다. 그 외 영적 위기, 실존적 위기, 가족관계 변화에 따른 위기, 사회생활 재평가에 따른 위기가 원인으로 추가되었다. 그러나 이 위기 속에서도 변화를 위한 모색, 즉, 자기(self)를 찾아가는 노력인 개성화(자기실현) 과정의 시작도 파악되었다. 즉, 자신에 대한 통찰의 순간이 있는 것이다. 그들이 보인 통찰의 내용은 그림자 수용, 아니마 아니무스 인식, 외적인격과 내적인격의 통합과정 등으로 분류할 수 있었다. 이러한 위기와 통찰의 과정은 우울과 절망, 단절과 고독, 내적불안과 마비, 퇴행과 같은 위기심리를 지닌 채 양극성을 오가며 진행되었다. 이렇듯 각자 내면의 모습은 중년기 위기로 힘들어 하지만 이를 거치며 개성화(자아실현)로 나아가고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 중년기의 특징과 그 위기를 바로 알고 준비한다면 개인으로써는 중년기의 발달과제를 성공적으로 수행할 수 있을 것이며 가정적으로는 가족 갈등에 현명하게 대처할 수 있을 것이고, 사회적으로는 우리나라 전체인구의 33%에 해당하는 중년기 성인의 정서적 혼란과 어려움을 덜어줄 수 있을 것이다. 그러므로 중년기 성인의 특성에 맞는 지역사회 사회복지 프로그램을 개발 보급하거나 청소년 상담과 같이 중년 상담을 특화하는 방법 등이 필요함을 제언하는 바이다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the crises experienced by middle-aged adults in the movie “Perfect Others” and attempts to facilitate an understanding of the process of individuation (self-realization) as a way to help those who are in this stage of life. The midlife crises of six characters were examined by applying Carl Jung’s analytical psychology, and a role-centered matrix analysis method was employed. Based on the results, the symptoms of the midlife crises experienced by six characters were affairs, a blow to self-concept, resignation, divorce, excessive investment, tiredness and nervousness at work, homosexual orientation, and breast plastic surgery attempts. These crisis symptoms were caused by the damage to the psychological structure experienced by all six people in middle age. In addition, spiritual crises, existential crises, crises caused by changes in family relations, and crises resulting from a re-evaluation of social life were added as causes. However, even during these midlife crises, the beginning of the process of individuation, the search for change, that is, an effort to find the self, was identified. In other words, the characters had a moment of insight about themselves. The contents of their insights could be classified into shadow acceptance, anima/animus recognition, and the process of integrating external and internal personality. However, this insight alternated with a crisis mentality such as depression, despair, disconnection, loneliness, inner anxiety, paralysis, and regression. As such, the inner self of each person struggled with the midlife crisis, but through this, they progressed toward individuation. Recognizing the onset of a midlife crisis and preparing for it can help individuals successfully carry out the development tasks of the middle age. In this manner, at home, family conflicts can be coped with wisely, and socially, it will be possible for middle-aged adults, who constitute 33% of the population in South Korea, to relieve themselves of emotional confusion and difficulties of middle age. Therefore, it is necessary to develop initiatives such as social welfare programs customized for middle-aged adults and specialized counseling for this population.
