An Exploratory Study of Korean Programs in Cambodia: Undergraduate Korean Programs at Four Universities in Cambodia

국문 초록

이 연구에서는 한국 정부가 캄보디아와 국교를 수립한 이후 2000년대 들어서면서 KOICA, 한국학중앙연구원, 세종학당이나 대학들을 중심으로 캄보디아에 증가하고 있는 한국어 교육 수요에 맞춘 캄보디아 대학들의 한국어학과 개설지원사례들을 살펴보고 분석하였다. 캄보디아에서 현재 개설된 한국어 학과들은 국립대학들인 왕립 프놈펜대학교, 바탐방대학교, 민체이대학교 그리고 사립대학교로는 한국 선교단체에 의해 설립된 라이프 대학교가 있었으며 2006년 2007년도에 설립된 사례들이었다. 연구를 통해 각 대학에서 운영되고 있는 한국어 학사과정에 대한 교육과정 분석과 교과목들을 살펴보았으며 그동안 배출한 졸업생들의 수 그리고 대학들이 한국어 학사과정을 운영하면서 겪고 있는 어려운 점들을 도출할 수 있었다. 이 연구에서는 대학들을 중심으로 운영 중인 한국어 교육과정에 대해 분석을 하였다. 연구를 통해 현재 캄보디아 대학에서 운영이 되는 한국어 학과들은 주로 한국 정부 및 관련 기관들의 지원을 통해 개설되었으나 충분한 수요조사가 반영된 교육과정 개발이 필요하다는 부분과 한국어 교육과정의 질 관리를 위해 지속적인 한국 교육 기관들과 캄보디아 대학들과의 교류 협력이 필요하다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 현재 한국으로 오는 캄보디아 외국인 근로자 수와 캄보디아에 진출하고 있는 다양한 한국의 기업들의 한국어 구사가 가능한 캄보디아 인력에 대한 수요는 지속해서 증가하고 있어서 향후 연구에서는 이러한 수요를 맞추기 위해 개설된 일반 학원들의 교육과정 실태 분석도 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

After the Korean government established diplomatic relations with Cambodia, in the late 1990s, KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency), the Central Research Institute for Korean Studies, King Sejong Institute, and Korean universities supported for the establishment of Korean language departments with Cambodian universities in response to the growing demand for Korean language education in Cambodia. This study analyzed the currently opened Korean department in Cambodia including the Royal Phnom Penh University, Battambang University, Mean Chey University, which are national universities, and Life University, which was established by a Korean missionary organization as a private university. Through the research, the curriculum and subjects of the Korean language course operated by each university, were analyzed as well as the number of graduates produced and the difficulties that universities are experiencing in operating the Korean language course. Through this research, the Korean departments currently operated at Cambodian universities were mainly opened with support from the Korean government and related organizations, but it is necessary to develop a curriculum that reflects sufficient demand surveys and to continuously manage the quality of the Korean language curriculum.
