한국 현대시 속 정신병동과 감옥 공간에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구는 이승하의 시집 감시와 처벌의 나날 을 대상으로 통제 또는 규율사회에서 비정상의 범주로 규정된 정신병자나 죄수들이 어떠한 양상을 드러내며, 시적 치유의 가능성을 어떻게 보여주는지를 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 즉 감시와 처벌의 나날 에 나타난 정신병동과 감옥이라는 제재에 주목하여 그것이 갖는 시적 의미를 탐색하고자 한다. 정신병동과 감옥은 현대의 권력이 구조적으로 장소화 되는 곳이다. 최근 한국시에서 이러한 소재에 집중한 이승하의 시를 대상으로 하고 있다는 점에서 한국시 연구의 지평을 확장할 수 있을 것이다. 푸코의 감시와 처벌 을 연상시키는 감시와 처벌의 나날 (2016)은 총 2부로 이루어져 있다. 제2부(38편)에서 는 정신병자들이 병원에 갇혀 있는 ‘감시’의 세계를 보여준다. 시인은 ｢죽음에 이르지 못하는 병｣, ｢광(狂)｣, ｢흉터｣등에서 병든 누이를 신화화함으로써 현실의 폭력성을 폭로하고 ‘미친 누이’의 고통을 시적으로 승화시키고 있다. 또 시인은 정신병동에 살고 있는 환자들의 삶을 통찰하고, 환자들이 그림을 그리거나 자작시를 씀으로서 카타르시스를 느끼고 이것이 결국 시적 치유로 나아가게 되는 과정을 보여준다. 한편 1부(24편)에서는 재소자들이 감옥에 갇혀 있는 ‘처벌’의 세계를 보여준다. 40년 동안 입어온 수의(囚衣)를 수의(壽衣)로 갈아입고 죽어서야 감옥을 나오는 모습을 그린 시(｢출소｣)도 있고, 사형수 유영철과 강호순을 소재로 한 시도 있다. 시인은 재소자들이 감옥에서 본래의 순수자아의 감성을 끌어올려 시를 쓰는 문학 활동을 지도함으로써 시의 치유적 기능을 보여준다. 한국 현대시인들이 다룬 공간 가운데 ‘감옥’과 ‘정신병원’은 대단히 특이한 공간이므로 다룰 값어치가 있다고 생각한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine aspects of psychopaths and prisoners, -defined as abnormal categories in controlled or disciplined societies, -and how they show the possibility of poetic healing in Lee Seung-ha’s collection of poems. In other words, we would like to pay attention to the sanctions of psychiatric wards and prisons in The Days of Surveillance and Punishment and explore the poetic meaning of the work. Psychiatric wards and prisons are spaces where modern power is structurally placed. By considering the recent Korean poetry of Lee Seung-ha, who has focused on these materials, this study will be able to expand the horizons of Korean poetry research. Poet Lee Seung-ha’s The Days of Surveillance and Punishment (2016), reminiscent of Foucault’s Surveillance and Punishment, consists of two parts. First, Part Ⅱ(38 poems) shows the world of ‘surveillance’ in which psychopaths are trapped in hospitals. By mythizing a sick sister in A disease that does not lead to Death , Gwang(狂, madness) and The Scar , the poet reveals the violence of reality and makes the pain of the ‘crazy sister’ poetic. The poet offers insights into the lives of patients living in psychiatric wards in his poems, and shows that patients experience catharsis by painting or writing their own poems, which eventually leads to poetic healing. Meanwhile, Part Ⅰ(24 poems) of The Days of Surveillance and Punishment shows the world of ‘punishment’ in which prisoners are imprisoned. There is also a poem Coming Out of Prison that depicts the image of leaving prison only in death changing his clothes from the prison uniform(囚衣), which has been worn for 40 years, to the shroud(壽衣). There is even a poem that has poetic material similar to Yu Yeong-cheol and Gang Ho-sun. The poet shows the healing function of the poem by guiding literary activities in which prisoners write poems by raising the original pure self’s sensibility in prison. Among the spaces covered by modern Korean poets, the ‘prison’ and ‘psychiatric ward’ are very unusual spaces; thus. I think these are worth studying.
