Designing Student-led TBL Curriculum for Peer Interaction to Improve University Students’ Writing Skill in the Online Class

국문 초록

TBL 이론(Ellis, 2003; Gonzales 2004)을 바탕으로, 본 연구는 코로나 시기의 온라인 수업에서학습자 주도형 상호소통 과제 활동을 위한 수업안을 설계하여 학습자의 온라인 수업 몰입도 유지를 통해 학습자의 쓰기 역량을 향상하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위해, 2020년 2학기에 필자가가르친 176명 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 필자는 과제 활동을 세 단계로 설계했다. 과제 산출물의3단계 이론(Nunan, 2004)에 따라, 본 수업안은 3단계로 구성되어 있다. 제1단계 소과제는 브레인스톰 단계로서, 짝꿍 인터뷰를 시행하였다. 제2단계 소과제는, 주제 문장과 지지 문장을 찾아내기위해, 네 명 학생이 한 팀을 이루어 온라인 수업과 일상생활을 어떻게 관리하고 있는지에 대한이야기를 친구들과 나누며 비디오로 촬영하도록 했다. 제3단계 소과제는, 선행 과제 산출물을 참고로 하여 각 학생이 개인별로 비슷한 주제로 영작문을 쓰도록 했다. 과제 수행 단계에서, 팀 구성, 비디오 촬영, 대화 전개 구성 등은 교수자의 가이드 아래 모두 학습자 주도로 이루어지게 하였다. 학기말 실시한 학습자의 강의 평가 피드백에서 이러한 학습자 주도형 상호소통이 학습자의 긍정적인 피드백을 이끌어내었고, 온라인 수업 활동 몰입도에 긍정적인 역할을 한 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

On a basis of a task-based learning (TBL) curriculum model(Gonzales, 2004), this study is to design the in-class communication task to be led by participant students for the online academic writing class in order to maintain the online learning engagement amid the COVID-19 time. To this end, the author designed a chain of sub-tasks for the 176 international students that the author taught during the fall semester of 2020. Based on Nunan(2004), the curriculum consists of three sub-tasks. First, in order to storm ideas(Folse, 201), students were assigned to interview their friends and share their feeling of loneliness in the corona time, Second, in order to find topic and supporting sentences, students were assigned to talk with 3 or 4 classmates in video team talk task about similar topic. Third, in order to organize an outline, students were assigned to individually write one paragraph or essay about the similar topic. In the process, the students played a key role under the teacher’s guide. Consequently, the student-led tasks were found to positively impact the students’ engagement in online class and writing skill at the semester-end students feedback survey.
