영화 <기생충>의 공간사회학적 의미 연구

국문 초록

이 논문은 영화 <기생충>에서 공간의 의미가 어떻게 사회적 주제 의식을 발휘하는지 밝히는데 목표가 있다. 인간 삶에서 공간의 의미가 불가분의 관계라는 점에 주목하여, 특히 영화 <기생충>에 나타난 ‘집’이 가족 구성원에게 어떤 관계를 이루며 의미를 띠는가 연구하였다. 봉준호감독의 영화 <기생충>은 인간을 둘러싼 기본적인 공간인 ‘집’을 중심으로 하여, ‘계단’, ‘지하’, ‘반지하’, ‘문’과 ‘창’ 등이 인간과 경제와의 상관성을 보이며, 그 안에 사는 사람의 계급적 차별을연결시키고 있다. 영화 <기생충>은 ‘집’, ‘창’, ‘문’, ‘계단’ 등 여러 가지 공간 기호들이 인물들의계급 갈등을 보이는 공간사회학적 작품이다. 자본주의 사회에서 노동자 계급과 부르주아 계급은서로 다른 공간적 특성을 보인다. 인간에게 집이란 安住의 공간이다. 영화 <기생충>에서 집은지상, 반지하, 지하라는 상/중/하의 수직 구조가 부르주아 계급과 노동자 계급 간의 차이와 그사회적 갈등, 그리고 더 굳건해지고 있는 한국 사회의 계급 구조를 비판적으로 보이고 있다. 서로다른 계급적 ‘선’을 넘어서지 말아야 하고, 서로 이질적인 ‘냄새’로 차별화된 현실에서, 우리는‘집’이라는 공간의 차별화된 계급성을 인식해야 한다. 지하에서 지상으로 상승하고 싶은 인간의욕망은 자본주의 사회가 고착화될수록 쉽게 이룰 수 없다. 이 영화는 더 나은 공간의 삶을 꿈꾸는인간의 보편적 욕망이 자본주의 사회에서는 쉽게 도달할 수 없는 일임을 보이고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to clarify how the meaning of space exerts social theme consciousness in the movie Parasite. Focusing on the fact that the meaning of space is an inseparable relationship in human life, in particular, we studied how the ‘house’ in the movie Parasite has a relationship with the family members and makes sense to them. Director Bong Joon Ho’s movie Parasite focuses on ‘house’, which is a basic space surrounding human beings, and the ‘stairs’, ‘basement’, ‘sub-basement apartment’, ‘door’, and ‘window’ show correlations between humans and the economy, which links the class discrimination of those who live in it. The movie Parasite is a space sociological work in which various space symbols such as ‘house’, ‘window’, ‘door’, and ‘stairs’ show class conflict between characters. In the movie Parasite, the house critically examines the differences between the bourgeois class and the labor class, its social conflict, and the class structure of the Korean society, which is characterized by the vertical high/middle/low structure, that is to say, the aboveground, sub basement apartment, and basement. We should not go beyond the different class ‘lines’, and in a reality differentiated by ‘smells’ that are different from each other, we must recognize the differentiated classiness of the space called ‘house’. Human desire to ascend from the basement to the aboveground cannot be easily fulfilled as the capitalist society becomes fixed.
