이현화의 <협종망치>에 나타난 애도와 그 의미

국문 초록

이 논문은 이현화의 희곡 <협종망치>를 대상으로 작품에 나타나는 애도를 살펴보고 그 의미를파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 지금까지 이 작품이 지닌 개별적인 특징에 대한 연구는 거의 전무한 상황이라 할 수 있다. 특히 이 논문이 주목하고자 하는 애도는 <협종망치>에 주목한 소수의연구 안에서 작품을 이해하는 중요한 지점이 되고 있음에도, 그것이 어떠한 방식으로 이루어지고있는지에 대한 분석은 이루어지고 있지 않다. 그렇기에 이 작품에 나타나는 애도를 분석하는 것은기존의 논의가 주목하지 못하였던 작품의 개별성을 새롭게 살펴보는 작업이 될 것이다. 1986년 ‘부천서 성고문 사건’을 바탕으로 창작된 이 작품에서 애도의 대상은 국가에 의한 고문에 의해 가족, 그리고 생명까지도 상실하게 된 권선희로 나타나고 있다. 권선희는 자궁암으로얼마 남지 않은 삶을 희생해서라도 자신을 고문한 문근형을 살해하고자 한다. 이러한 복수는 암울한 과거를 현재진행형이 아니게 하고, 신세기를 살아갈 사람들의 기억 속으로 이동시키고자 한다는 점에서 애도를 요구하는 것이라 할 수 있다. 그러나 이 애도를 실행하는 이, 문근형의 내연녀인강나리는 오히려 권선희가 요구하는 애도를 거부하고 그녀와 함께 평범한 삶을 살아가자고 설득한다. 이때 강나리가 수행하고자 하는 애도는 상실을 극복하는 것이 아니라 상실한 대상과의 관계를 포기하지 않고 지속하고자 하는 태도라 할 수 있다. 이 작품에서 강나리를 통해 드러나는 애도의 태도는 권선희의 관계를 통해 자신을 변화시키고있다는 점에서 현재의 삶과 밀접한 관계를 맺게 된다. 강나리는 애도의 대상인 권선희의 삶에대하여 무지한 것으로 그려지지만, 권선희에게 이루어진 고문을 역할놀이를 통해 체험함으로써상실한 것이 무엇인지 깨닫게 된다. 중요한 것은 이 과정에서 강나리가 문근형과의 관계를 타인에게 공개해서는 안 된다는 두려움으로 인해 위험에 빠지게 되었다는 점이다. 이는 <협종망치>에서애도가 권선희뿐만 아니라 강나리의 삶 역시 상실의 대상이 될 수 있다는 사실을 보여주고 있다. 이처럼 <협종망치>는 과거를 어떻게 애도할 것인가에 대한 재성찰을 요구한다. 강나리가 보여주는 것과 같이 애도는 과거를 극복하거나 잊는 것이 아니라 그와 함께 살아가면서 현재의 삶까지도 변화시킬 수 있는 과정이기 때문이다. 그리고 이 과정은 독자와 관객에게 타인의 상실에 대한가해자임을 잊고 있는 것은 아닌지, 동시에 피해자가 될 수 있음을 외면하고 있는 것은 아닌지에대하여 의문을 던지고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the mourning in Lee Hyun-hwa’s play and to understand its meaning. So far, there has been almost no study on the individual characteristics of this work. Especially, the mourning that this paper intends to pay attention to is an important point to understand the work in a few studies that focused on , but there is no analysis on how it is done. Therefore, analyzing the condolences that appear in this work will be a new look at the individuality of the works that previous discussions did not pay attention to. In this work, which was created based on the “Bucheon Police Station Sexual Torture Case” the object of mourning appears to be Kwon Sun-hee, who lost her life, family, and even her life by national violence and torture. Kwon Sun-hee is trying to kill Moon Geun-hyung, who tortured him at the expense of his life with uterine cancer. This revenge calls for condolences in that it is intended to move the grim past away from the present and into the memory of those who will live through the new year’s However, Kang Na-ri, Moon Geun-hyung’s lover, refuses the mourning demanded by Kwon Sun-hee and persuades her to live a normal life together. At this time, Kang Na-ri’s condolences are not about overcoming the loss, but about continuing her relationship with the lost object without giving up. The attitude of mourning revealed through Kang Na-ri in is closely related to the present life in that it changes itself through the relationship of Kwon Sun-hee. In this work, Kang Na-ri is portrayed as ignorant of the life of Kwon Sun-hee, the object of mourning, but he is reborn as a person who realizes what he lost by experiencing the torture made by Kwon Sun-hee through ‘role play’. It is worth noting that the fact that Kang Na-ri was unable to avoid the torture of Kwon Sun-hee was due to the fear that it should not be revealed to others.This process is a process of recognizing the loss of Kwon Sun-hee, and also the process of discovering that the life of Kang Na-ri can also be the object of loss. In this way, shows the concern about how to mourn the past which became the object of mourning. The mourning in aims not to overcome or forget the past but rather to change the present by living with it.In this regard, calls for readers and audiences to renew their relationship with the past by recalling the problem of national violence in the 1980s on stage, and through this, it makes the audience and readers realize the vulnerability of their lives.
