Analysis of Types of Perceptions toward Instructional Media for Young Children among Pre-service Early Childhood Teachers using Q-methodology

국문 초록

본 연구는 예비유아교사의 유아교수매체에 대한 이미지와 이미지의 특징을 확인하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 전문대학교 유아교육 전공 학생 47명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하여 Q-방법론을 사용해 분석하였다. P-표본은 전문대학 유아교육과 3학년 재학생 47명으로, 48개 Q-표본 진술문을 Q-방법으로 분류하고, 그 반응점수를 Q-요인 분석하였다. 연구결과, 유아교수매체에 대한 이미지는 이미지 유형은 3개 유형으로 나뉘며, 각각의 설명변량은 제1유형 55.98%, 제2유형 10.66%, 제3유형 9.81%로 나타났다. 제1유형은 34명(72.34%)이 해당되는 유아중심형으로 명명되었다. 제2유형은 7명(14.89%)에게서 나타난 유아학습-교수자 중심형으로서, 유아 학습과정에서의 적절성에 동의하지만 교수자의 매체 제작과 역량의 요구에는 부정적인 특징을 보였다. 6명(12.77%)이 부하된 제3유형은 교육기능 중심형으로 명명하였다. 제3유형은 유아교육에서 교수매체가 학습자에게 적합한 교육의 목표 달성을 위한 도구로서, 교육내용에 맞게 그리고 활용전략을 적절하게 선택함으로써 교육목표 달성에 기여한다는 이미지로 나타났다. 본 연구는 교사 양성과정에서 예비유아교사가 교수자의 입장과 유아의 발달 측면 각각에서 교수매체의 중요성을 높게 인식하는 교수매체 이미지를 갖도록 교육할 필요성을 시사해 주었다.

영문 초록

This study investigated the types of perceptions that teachers have toward instructional media for young children and the characteristics of the types of perceptions using Q-methodology. The P-sample consised of 47 students in their junior year in a college’s department of early childhood education. Using Q-methodology, these students classified 48 Q-sample statements. Analyzing the scores from the 48 statements using Q-factor analysis, we found the following results. First, the pre-service teachers’ perceptions toward instructional media for young children were classified into three types, which had an explanatory power of 55.98% for Type I, 10.66% for Type II, and 9.81% for Type III. Type I—child-centered perception—accounted for 34 subjects (72.4%). Type I subjects agreed that instructional media should connect children to learning. Type II—young children’s learning-teacher-centered perception—accounted for seven subjects (14.89%). Type II subjects agreed that instructional media should be appropriate for teaching and learning, but did not agree that teachers should be required to create instructional media. Type III—teaching function-centered perception—accounted for six subjects (12.77%). Type III subjects agreed that instructional media are tools to deliver teaching content and are useful in accomplishing educational objectives. Results of this study suggest that teacher education programs need to educate pre-service early childhood teachers on the importance of instructional media from the perspective of both child development and the teaching practice.
