국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 비유 그림을 활용하여 중등 영어교사의 정체성을 탐구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 방법 이를 위하여 총 15명의 중등 영어교사가 참여하였으며 전문적 정체성을 담은 비유적 그림과 성찰 내용이 들은 발표 및 수행한 면담 결과를 질적 연구 방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 결과 연구 결과, 본 연구에 참여자들은 비유를 사용하여 자신의 정체성을 탐구하는 것이 그들에게 교수법, 학생과의 관계, 그리고 부담 요인과 같은 다양한 문제를 성찰할 수 있는 기회를 제공함을 보여 주었고 그들은 또한 비유를 사용하여 자신의 정체성을 묘사하고 다른 사람들과 공유함으로써 수업 이전에 불분명한 문제를 해결할 수 있었다. 결론 영어교사의 전문적 정체성을 탐구하는 도구로 비유적 그림은 인지적으로 효과적이라는 다른 연구와 일치하고 있으며 교사 연수에서 얻은 지식과 경험이 그들의 생각과 신념에 어떻게 영향을 미쳤는지에 대한 성찰도 가능하게 하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study was to explore Korean Secondary English teachers’ professional identities by using metaphor drawings. Methods A total of 15 secondary English teachers participated in this study and their metaphoric drawings at the beginning and the end of the course were collected as data. Furthermore, their reflective presentations and inter-view excerpts were transcribed for data analysis using a qualitative approach. Results The results showed that exploring their identities using metaphors allowed them to reflect on a wide range of issues such as their teaching practices, relationship with students, and burdening factors. They were also able to address issues that were unclear prior to the course by means of depicting their identities using metaphors and sharing them with others. Conclusions The findings of the study are in line with other studies that regard metaphors as an effective cognitive tool in shedding light on the teachers’ identities. The analysis of their metaphors also showed that they were able to reflect on how knowledge and experience gained from the teacher program have impacted their thoughts and beliefs.
