영재자녀를 둔 부모의 양육경험에 대한 내러티브 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 성인 영재자녀를 둔 부모의 양육경험에 대해 깊이 있게 들여다보고 이해를 돕는데 목적이 있다. 방법 연구 참여자의 일상적인 행동과 생각을 구체적 맥락 속에서 파악하고 경험의 의미를 그대로 인정하고 해석할 수 있도록, Clandinin과 Connelly(2000)가 제안한 내러티브 탐구의 절차에 따라 진행하였다. 연구 참여자로는 영재판정을 받은 자녀를 양육한 경험이 있는 부모 중 한 사람으로 선정했다. 면담은 총 3회, 회당 평균 130분간 진행하였고 이를 바탕으로 최종 연구 텍스트가 작성되었다. 결과 연구를 통해 도출된 9가지의 주제는 ‘어디에서나 드러나는 자녀의 뛰어난 능력에 대해 인식’, ‘자녀의 난치성 뇌질환의 발견’, ‘자녀의 영재성과 새로운 교육 필요성에 대한 인식’, ‘자녀의 특성을 이해하고 지지해줌’, ‘학교에서 문제아로 보는 선생님과 영재아로 보는 선생님의 평가’, ‘소통의 답답함을 느끼는 자녀를 위해 통로를 열어줌’, ‘확신을 가지고 자녀를 믿어줌’, ‘영재의 고유한 특성의 어려움’, 그리고 ‘자녀를 한 인격체로 인정하고 자녀의 인생을 존중해주는 것’으로 나타났다. 결론 이를 통해 나타난 영재자녀 양육경험의 의미는 ‘자녀의 특성을 이해하고 수용함’, ‘자녀에게 필요한 지원을 함’, ‘부모의 불안으로 인해 자녀를 통제하거나 간섭하지 않도록 주의하며 자녀를 존중하고 믿음을 가짐’이다. 본 연구는 영재 자녀가 성인기에 이르기까지 양육 과정을 깊이있게 탐색하고 의미를 알아보았다. 이를 바탕으로 다양한 문제에 직면한 영재 부모를 이해하고 그들을 위한 교육과 상담을 위한 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study was to explore the life experienced as a parent of gifted children. Methods The analysis of the data was conducted according to the narrative exploration procedure proposed by Clandinin and Connelly(2000) so that the participant's daily behaviors and thoughts could be identified in a specific context and the meaning of their experiences could be interpreted. As study participant, one of parents who has gifted children was selected. A participant had an average of 130 minutes per session, and a total of three in-depth interviews were conducted, and bssed on this, the final research text was prepared. Results The contents of the nine themes derived from the stories of the study participant are as follows. ‘Recognition of a child's outstanding abilities that are revealed everywhere’, ‘detection of a child's intractable brain disease’, ‘recognition of a child's giftedness and educational needs’, ‘understanding and support for a child's characteristics’, ‘treated as gifted child or problem child in school teacher evaluation’, ‘opening a channel for a child who feel frustrated with communication’, ‘trusting their child with confidence’, ‘difficulties with the unique psychological characteristics of gifted children’, and ‘respecting their child as a person’. Conclusions The meanings of the parenting experience are ‘understanding and accepting the child's characteristics’, ‘supporting for the child’, ‘being vigilant against controlling or interfering with the child due to parental anxiety, respecting and trusting the child’. This study deeply explored the process of raising gifted children until adulthood and found out the meaning. Based on this, it is expected that parents of gifted children who face various problems can be understood and used as basic data for education and counseling for them.
