국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 여성 위주의 직업을 선택한 남자 상담자들이 어떠한 진로 전환을 거쳐왔는지, 그리고 남자 상담자로 살아가며 어떠한 경험을 하고 있는지 알아보기 위하여 실시 되었다. 방법 연구 참여자는 편의 표집으로 상담 경력 3년 이하인 남자 상담자 세 명을 선정하였다. 반구조화된 질문지를 통하여 심층 인터뷰하였고 이를 통해 참여자들이 충분히 이야기 할 수 있도록 하였다. 심층 인터뷰한 원자료를 바탕으로 Clandinin과 Connelly의 내러티브 탐구 연구방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구자의 선입견이 들어가지 않도록 노력하였고, 연구 전반을 감수하는 분석팀을 둠으로써 연구의 객관성을 확보하고자 하였다. 결과 참여자들은 이전에 구체적인 탐색없이 진로를 선택한 것으로 나타났고, 상담자로 진로를 선택한 계기는 자신과 타인을 돕고 싶은 마음이었다. 이들은 재정적인 면 보다 사람에게 중요한 가치를 두고 있었으며, 상담의 작업동맹에 도움이 되고 청소년들에게 좋은 모델이 될 수 있다고 여기고 있었다. 반면 남성 상담자를 향한 부정적인 선입견과 재정적 어려움은 여전히 존재한다고 느끼고 있었다. 결론 상담자가 되어가는 세 남성의 이야기를 통하여 이들의 경험을 이해하고자 하였다. 남성 상담자는 충분한 숙고의 과정을 거쳤기에 직업적 만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 남성 상담자라는 사실은 특정 대상에게 장점으로 발휘될 수 있다. 따라서 남성 상담자가 많아져야하며, 재정적 측면이 충족될 수 있는 방법이 모색되어야 함을 제언하는 바이다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to understand what kind of career transition the male counselors who chose the women-centered job have gone through and what kind of experiences they have as male counselors. Methods Using the convenience sampling method, this study selected three male counselors with counseling experiences for three years or less as the participants of this study. This study conducted the in-depth interviews through the semi-structured questionnaire, analyzed the data by using the narrative inquiry, and aimed to secure the objectiveness of this study with an analysis team by trying not to include researcher’s prejudices. Results The participants chose their career without concrete exploration before. As the opportunity to choose the career, they just wanted to help themselves and others. They were putting important value on human, and also regarding that they could be helpful for working alliance and become a good model to adolescents. On the other hand, they were feeling that there were still negative prejudices and economic hardship. Conclusions This study aimed to understand the experiences of three men who were becoming counselors through their story. The male counselors showed high satisfaction and the male counselors themselves could work as a merit to certain targets. Thus, the male counselors should be increased, and this study suggests the necessity to seek for the methods to meet the economic aspect.
