평가 방식 변화에 따른 대학평점 변인 및 효과 분석

국문 초록

목적 코로나19로 2020학년도에 우리나라 많은 대학에서 평가 방식을 이전의 상대평가에서 절대평가로 전환하였다. 이 같은 변화가 갑자기 이루어짐에 따라 절대평가 방식이 대학 교육에 도입되었을 때 실제로 어떠한 긍정적 혹은 부정적 결과가 나타나는지에 대한 심도 있는 연구는 부족했다. 본 연구는 이러한 평가 방식의 변화에 따라 대학평점이 어떻게 달라졌는지를 분석하였다. 방법 지방 소재의 중형 대학인 A대학의 사례를 대상으로 학생의 성별, 대학평점, 고교 내신성적 등을 변수로 분석하였는데, 상대평가와 절대평가 방식이 적용된 학기별로 고교 내신성적이 대학평점에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위해 집단 간의 차이를 분석할 때는 t 검정, 변수 간의 단순 상관관계를 분석하기 위해서는 상관계수 분석을 하였고, 고교 내신성적과 대학평점의 관계는 단순회귀분석과 중회귀분석을 활용하였다. 결과 학생들의 대학평점이 대략 한 등급 정도 상승한 것으로 나타났다. 이로 인해 상위권 학생의 성적 변별력은 약화했지만, 중위권 학생의 변별력은 강화되었다. 또한 학점 인플레이션이라는 비판에도 불구하고 학생의 기초 학업능력이나 성별이 대학평점과 밀접한 상관관계가 발생한다는 점도 확인되었다. 결론 대학에서 교육의 수월성을 담보하기 위해서는 평가 방식의 효과성도 매우 중요하게 고려해야 한다. 본 연구는 대학 평가 방식의 변화에 따른 변인과 효과에 대해 분석함으로써 포스트-코로나 시대에 대학 교육에서 어떠한 평가 방식을 도입하는 것이 바람직한지 정책적 결정을 하는 데 기초적인 실증 자료를 제공하였다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Objectives Due to the pandemic of the COVID-19 infectious disease, many universities in Korea switched the evaluation method from the previous relative evaluation to the absolute evaluation in 2020. Methods This study analyzed how the university s rating was changed according to the change in the evaluation method, with the case of A University, an intermediate-sized university located in a region. Results It was found that the university s score increased by about one grade. As a result, the high ranking students ability to discriminate against grades was weakened, while the middle ranking students ability to discriminate was strengthened. It was also found that despite the side effects of university grade inflation, there is a close correlation between students basic academic ability, gender, and university grades. In order to ensure the excellence of education in universities, the effectiveness of the evaluation method should also be considered very important. Conclusions This study is significant in that it provides basic empirical data for making policy decisions on what kind of evaluation method is desirable to adopt in university education in the Post-COVID era by analyzing the variables and effects of the change in university evaluation method.
