국문 초록

이 연구는 사회이동 중에서 상승이동에 주목하여 청년들이 인식하는 사회이동 수준과 데이터 분석을 통해 추정한 연구 결과들을 살펴보고 향후 청년과 사회이동 연구의 방향과 정책적 시사점을 제안하였다. 특히 어떤 사회이동인가와 관련하여 교육사회학에서 주목해 왔던 교육이동과 이에 영향 받는 직업이동을 비롯해 최근 부상하고 있는 자산이동의 문제까지 포괄적으로 살펴보았다. 먼저 사회이동을 바라보는 인식을 살펴본 결과, 최근으로 올수록 사회이동에 대한 부정적인 시각이 모든 연령집단에서 증가하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 청년의 경우 다른 연령집단보다 부정적인 응답 비율이 더 높게 나타났다. 부모와 자녀세대의 교육이동과 직업이동에 대해서 최근 가족배경의 영향이 약화되고 있다는 연구 결과들이 증가하였다. 이는 우리나라의 빠른 고학력화와 직업구조의 변화가 영향을 미쳐왔기 때문으로 보인다. 사회이동에 대한 인식과 실제 간의 차이는 시차의 문제에서 비롯된 측면이 있다. 이는 사회이동에 대한 분석이 부모와 자녀 세대 간의 장기간에 걸친 변화를 다루는 데 비해서 이에 대한 인식은 지난 몇 년간의 변화에 영향을 받기 때문이다. 다른 한편, 불평등의 양상이 교육이나 직업이동에서 자산이동으로 옮겨가면서 어떤 이동을 분석하는가에 따라 결과의 차이가 나타날 수 있다. 이와 관련 이 연구에서는 자산이동 연구의 필요성과 정책적 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study focuses on upward social mobility, examining the perceived levels of social mobility among youth and presenting research results estimated through data analysis. The study also suggests future directions and implications for research on youth and social mobility, comprehensively exploring education mobility, a topic that has been highlighted in the field of educational sociology and occupational mobility, as well as recent issues related to and asset mobility. Firstly, the study looked at perceptions directly related to social mobility, revealing that negative views on social mobility have been increasing across all age groups, especially among the youth. Research results indicate a diminishing influence of family background on education and occupational mobility in the parent and child generations. This is attributed to the rapid increase in educational attainment and changes in the occupational structure in South Korea. The difference between perception and reality regarding social mobility stems from the issue of time lag. This is because the analysis of social mobility tends to address long-term changes between parent and child generations, while perceptions of social mobility focus on changes that have occurred over the past few years. On the other hand, it is pointed out that the nature of inequality may vary depending on the analysis of the type of mobility, whether in education or occupational movement, transitioning into asset mobility. In this context, the study suggests the need for research on asset mobility and provides policy implications.
