초등 예비교사들의 산술 평균 문제해결 활동 분석

국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 산술 평균에 대한 문제해결 활동 분석을 통해 초등 예비교사들의 산술 평균에 대한 이해를 분석하였다. 방법 이를 위하여 광역시 소재 A교육대학교 3학년 116명을 대상으로 산술 평균 문제해결 활동을 시행하였다. 학생들은 8주차 문제해결론 수업 시간 중 약 70분 동안 조별로 산술 평균 관련 문제를 조별로 해결하였으며, 그 결과 수집된 총 20개 조의 문제해결 활동결과물을 분석하였다. 결과 일부 초등 예비교사들은 크기가 다른 두 자료 집합을 비교하는 문제 상황에서 평균이 적절한 측도임을 인식하지 못하였다. 또한 예비교사들은 산술 평균 문제를 해결하기 위해 절차적 계산 전략을 주로 사용하였으며, 문제 유형과 문제에서 제시하는 자료 표현방법에 따라 유추적 전략의 사용 정도가 다르게 나타났다. 결론 본 연구 결과는 초등 예비교사 교육에서 예비교사들이 산술 평균에 대한 절차적 지식과 더불어 균등 분배와 균형점에 대한 관점을 고르게 경험할 수 있도록 다양한 문제 유형과 다양한 자료 표현을 사용할 기회를 제공해야 하며 산술 평균에 대한 오개념을 명시적으로 다뤄줄 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purposes of this study were to examine elementary preservice teachers’ understanding about arithmetic mean by analyzing their problem solving activities. Methods In order to do this, 116 elementary preservice teachers participated in this study. They solved problems related to arithmetic mean for 70 minutes through group activities during class. As a result 20 problem solving group work papers were collected and analyzed. Results The results of this study showed that some preservice teachers could not recognize arithmetic mean as a proper measure in problem requiring comparison of two data sets with different size. In addition, they mainly used procedural calculation strategies when solving arithmetic mean problems, and extent of analogical strategies were different according to types of problem and representation of data sets. Conclusions The results indicate that elementary preservice teachers need to develop their conceptual understanding of arithmetic mean by experiencing various aspects of the concept such as mathematical, functional, and analogical aspects and overcome their misconceptions of arithmetic mean.
