고등학생의 성별에 따른 알고리즘과 프로그래밍의 수준 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 알고리즘과 프로그래밍에 대한 남녀 고등학생의 성취수준을 분석하여 성별에 따른 시사점을 제공하기 위한 목적이 있다. 목적 달성을 위해, 2017년 10월부터 12월까지 13개 고등학교의 학생 총 1,892명을 대상으로 알고리즘과 프로그래밍 검사를 실시하고, 결과 데이터의 필터링을 통해 SPSS로 통계분석 하였다. 성별 성취수준 분석 결과, 첫째, 점수 분포는 알고리즘에서 여학생, 프로그래밍에서 남학생의 점수가 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 알고리즘은 여학생, 프로그래밍은 남학생의 점수가 통계적으로 유의미하게 높았다. 셋째, 소속 학교의 정보 수업 진행 여부에 따른 점수 분석 결과, 알고리즘과 프로그래밍 모두에서 남학생은 정보 수업이 진행될 경우의 점수가 높았다. 그러나 여학생은 정보 수업의 진행 여부에 따른 알고리즘, 프로그래밍 점수의 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 본 연구는 여학생들의 경우, 단지 수업을 통해서 프로그래밍 관련 실력을 높일 수는 없으며, 학령이 낮을 때부터 시작하여 거부감을 없앨 필요가 있음을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the achievement level of male and female high school students with regards to their algorithm and programming courses, and to provide meaningful implications according to gender. To achieve this goal, algorithm and programming tests were conducted on a total of 1,892 students from 13 high schools from October to December 2017, and basic statistical analysis was performed on the resulting data. As a result of analyzing the level of achievement according to gender, it was found that, first, the score distribution was higher for female students for algorithms while male students scored higher for programming. Second, the scores of girls for algorithms and those for boys for programming were significantly higher than their countervailing gender. Third, as for the results according to the progress of the Informatics course of the school, male students were found to achieve relatively higher scores when Informatics courses included both algorithm and programming lessons. However, in the case of female students, no significant difference was found between the scores regarding algorithms and programming according to the progress of the Informatics course. This study suggests that female students can t improve their programming-related skills only through classes, implying that their tendency to reject such courses at an early school age needs to be addressed.
