국문 초록

본 연구는 레이 브래드베리의 <화씨 451>을 중심으로, 사회의 급속한 변화 속에서 책과 지식이 사라지게 된 과정을 탐구하고 그 결과를 분석하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이는 사회적 동질성 추구, 권력 집단의강압, 대중의 수동적 태도와 결합하여 발생하는 현상으로, 이 연구는 이러한 상황에서 미디어와 기술의영향력이 어떻게 작용하는지, 그리고 이것이 현대사회에 어떤 시사점을 가지는지를 분석한다. 특히 작품에서 그려진 디스토피아 세계와 현대사회의 미디어 중독 및 기술에 대한 과도한 의존 문제를 비교하여 이해하려 한다. 그리고 인공지능과 디지털 기술이 지배하는 현재 시대에도 여전히 중요한 가치를 지닌 독서의 역할과 지식, 인간 정신의 본질적 가치에 대해 고찰한다. 최종적으로, 본 연구는 활자 매체에서 디지털 매체로의 전환 과정에서 책의 물질적 형태보다는 책 안에 담긴 본질을 이해하고 독서를통해 사유하고 삶의 의미를 주체적으로 해석하는 능력의 중요성을 강조한다.

영문 초록

The primary objective of this research is to delve into the circumstances leading to the eradication of books from society, as depicted in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. It seeks to dissect the interplay between the pursuit of homogeneity, authoritarian tendencies of power groups, and mass passivity. Additionally, this study draws parallels between Bradbury’s cautionary tales of unrestrained media and technological influence and the realities of our current society. It begins with an exploration of how rapidly evolving circumstances lead individuals to estrange themselves from pursuing reading and knowledge. Subsequently, the analysis compares media addiction and technology dependence in the novel and their impact on contemporary human relationships and mental well-being. Lastly, the research examines why recognizing the importance of reading and reclaiming the value of knowledge and the human spirit remain crucial, even in an era dominated by artificial intelligence and digital advancements. In conclusion, this study underscores the significance of critical thinking and interpretation, highlighting the essence of books rather than their physical form.
