구술담화의 청자 반응 분석

국문 초록

이 연구에서는 구술담화에서 나타나는 청자 반응 유형을 분류하고 청자 반응에 따른 대화 전개 양상을 분석하였다. 청자 반응의 양상을 수용 반응, 정서 반응, 이해 반응으로 분석할 수 있었다. 수용 반응은 청자가 화자의발화를 들었거나 화자의 발화를 받아들이고 있음을 나타내는 것으로, 청자 반응 중 가장 높은 빈도로 나타난다. 정서 반응은 화자의 발화에 대해 청자가 감정을 드러내며 정서적인 반응을 나타내는 것이다. 이해 반응은 화자의발화 의미를 파악하여 그에 대한 반응을 나타내는 것으로, 인식, 정리, 동의, 반복, 질문, 제시, 대답 등의 예가나타났다. 청자 반응에 따른 화제 전개 유형은 하나의 화제를 이어가는 화제 연결, 새로운 정보를 더해가는 화제 확대,이전의 화제를 다시 제시하는 화제 환기의 세 유형으로 분석할 수 있었다. 이러한 화제 전개 양상은 화자와 청자가 상호작용하며 어떤 방식으로 대화가 전개되는지를 나타냄으로써 청자 반응과 관련한 대화 구조의 틀을 파악할수 있게 한다. 청자 반응의 화제 전개 양상은 ‘수용 반응의 화제 확장’ > ‘수용 반응의 화제 연결’ > ‘정서 반응의화제 확장’ 순으로 나타났다. 이러한 대화 구조 유형은 화자와 청자에게 상대방의 발화를 이끌어내고 어떻게 전개해 나갈지 예측 가능하게 하는 대화 전략으로 사용될 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to classify the types of listener responses in oral discourses and analyze thepatterns of conversation development according to listener responses. Listener responses couldbe classified into acceptance response, emotional response, and understanding response. Acceptanceresponse indicates that the listener has heard the speaker s utterance or is accepting the speaker sutterance, and shows the highest frequency among the three listener responses. In emotionalresponse, the listener expresses emotion to the speaker’s utterance and responds in an emotionalway. Understanding response is to respond to the speaker’s utterance after grasping what it means,and its examples were found to be recognition, organization, agreement, repetition, question,suggestion, and answer. The study showed that topic development according to listener response are classified into threetypes: topic continuation to keep one topic, topic expansion to add new information. and topicrecall to bring back the previous topic. These patterns of topic development might help graspthe framework of the conversation structure related to listener responses by showing how theconversation proceeds while the speaker and the listener interact. The patterns of topic developmentin listener response were shown to be used frequently in the order of topic expansion in acceptanceresponse, topic continuation in acceptance response, topic expansion in emotional response. Thistype of conversation structure can be used as a conversation strategy that enables the speaker andlistener to elicit utterance from each other and makes it possible to predict how to develop conversation.
