보리스 비앙의 <세월의 거품>, 초현실주의 텍스트로 읽기

국문 초록

본고의 목적은 보리스 비앙의 <세월의 거품>의 내용을 성적 욕망과 거세로 이루어진 백일몽으로 보고 이를 이작품의 초현실성으로 해석하는 근거를 찾는 데 있다. 이러한 연구를 위해 본고에서는 프로이트 정신분석학의 연구방법(<꿈의 해석>)을 적용하여 해석의 근거를 꿈 이야기의 문법·상징의 측면에서 제시하고 이 소설의 고유한 서사방식을 찾아 조명하고자 하였다. 비앙의 소설이 꿈 이야기의 문법을 따르고 있는가를 알기 위해 그 내용에서 ‘서술 논리의 위반’, ‘시공간의 파괴’, ‘등장인물의 모호성’이 발견되는가를 분석하였는데, 분석 결과 소설이 그 예로가득 차 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 이 소설에서 욕망과 거세의 상징을 분석하였는데, 이 상징 또한 매우 풍부함을 알 수 있었다. 욕망의 상징에서 이 소설 고유의 서사 방식을 볼 수 있었는데, 그것은 성적 묘사가 오감과 깊은관련 속에서 전개된다는 점이다. 이 소설에서 매우 빈번하게 언급되는 꽃과 재즈 음악과 음식은 시각과 후각, 청각, 미각의 감각을 통한 ‘욕망의 충족’을 위한 것이다. 이와 같은 점들과, <세월의 거품>이 유사(은유)와 인접(환유)의 원칙을 따르는 압축과 전위의 작업을 통해 이야기를 구성한다는 점에서 우리는 이 소설이 꿈의 서사로 이루어져 있다고 말할 수 있다. 이 소설의 꿈이 밤의 꿈이 아니라 백일몽인 것은 꿈의 2차 가공으로 밤의 꿈보다 훨씬일관성이 있고, 에로틱한 모험이 그 목적을 달성하는 경우가 많은 백일몽의 특징을 이 소설이 그대로 보여주기 때문이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to interpret the content of Boris Vian’s L’écume des jours as adaydream made up of sexual desire and castration, and to find the bases to consider it as thesurreality of this work. For this study, in this article, applying the research method of Freudianpsychoanalysis (The Interpretation of Dreams), the basis of the interpretation has been presentedin terms of the grammar and symbolism of the dream narrative, and the unique narrative methodof this novel has been researched and informed. In order to find out whether Vian’s novel followsthe grammar of the dream narrative, it was analyzed whether “violation of narrative logic”,“destruction of spatio-temporal notions” and “ambiguity of the characters” were found in thecontent, and analysis revealed that the novel was full of examples. We also analyzed the symbolismof desire and castration in this novel, and found that this symbolism is also very rich. In thesymbolism of desire, we could see the novel’s unique narrative style, namely that the sexualrepresentation develops in deep connection with the five senses. The flowers, jazz music, andfood mentioned very frequently in this novel are intended to “fulfill desire” through the sensesof sight, smell, hearing and taste. We can say that this novel is composed of a story of dreamsin the sense that L’écume des jours composes a story through the work of condensation anddisplacement which follows the principle of resemblance (metaphor) and contiguity (metonymy). The fact that the dream in this novel is a daydream rather than a night dream is due to the factthat this novel shows characteristics of daydreams which are more consistent than nighttimedreams through secondary dream elaboration, and that erotic adventures often achieve theirpurpose.
