Analysis of Educational Content on Social Inequality Theory in Social Studies: Focusing on the 2015 Revised “Society and Culture” Textbooks and Curriculum

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 사회과에서 사회 불평등 이론 관련 교육내용을 분석함으로써 교육과정 및 교과서 측면의 개선점을 제안하는 것이다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기능론에서는 불평등 필요론을 제시하여 현실에 비추어 내용 타당성이 결여되고, 관련 단원 간의 체계성도 결여된 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 갈등론에서는 마르크스주의 계급론을 기반으로 추상적⋅포괄적으로 진술되어 불평등의 발생 과정 및 현실 사례에 대한 설명 논리가 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석 결과의 배경 요인을 탐색한 결과, 수업과 평가의 편의성과 이미 검정을 통과한 이전 교과서의 내용을 참조할 필요성에 대한 교과서 저자들의 인식이 교과서 집필 과정에 반영되었던 것이 주요 요인으로 분석되었다. 상술한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 사회 불평등 이론 관련 교육내용 개선을 위한 제언은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교육과정 측면에서 사회 불평등 개념 및 이론이 현실 적합성을 갖출 수 있도록 성취기준 관련 내용의 개선이 필요하다. 둘째, 교과서 집필 측면에서 현실 사회의 불평등 현상에 대한 비판적 분석에 주안점을 두는 집필 관점의 정립이 필요하다. 셋째, 교과서 검정 측면에서 검정을 통과한 교과서 내용만이 합의된 정설로 단정되지 않도록 관련 검정 기준의 개선이 필요하다. 넷째, 교수 및 평가 관행 측면에서 사회 불평등 이론을 실제 사례에 적용하는 데 도움이 되는 탐구 과제 중심의 운영이 요구된다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the educational content related to social inequality theory as delivered in social studies to provide suggestions for improvements in terms of the curricula employed and the related textbooks. First, I discuss the theory of the necessity of inequality as presented as a functionalist theory, indicating that it lacks content validity and systematicity between its units. Second, I discuss the contention that conflict theory is expressed abstractly and comprehensively using Marxist class theory and that the reasoning on inequality in terms of empirical cases is insufficient. Exploring the background factors of these findings, the main reason that emerged was that the textbook authors’ perceptions of the convenience of instruction and evaluation, as well as the need to refer to the content of previous textbooks that passed the qualification, were all somewhat awkwardly reflected in the textbook writing process. I make some suggestions for improving educational content related to social inequality theory. First, it is necessary to improve curriculum achievement standards to align the theory of social inequality with the reality. Second, a perspective should be adopted for textbook writing that focuses on the critical analysis of inequality in real society. Third, the qualification criteria for textbooks must be improved such that only those textbooks whose content has passed the qualifications are not concluded to be agreed orthodoxy. Fourth, for teaching and evaluation practices, inquiry tasks that help develop a theory of social inequality that can be applied in real life should be adopted.
