외상 후 성장에 관한 인식 분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 외상 후 성장(posttraumatic growth)에 대한 한국인의 인식을 국가와 종교적 맥락에 따라 비교분석하는 것이다. 한국 일반성인 251명을 대상으로, 외상 후 성장 척도(PTGI)의 각 문항에 대해 ‘성장으로 인식하는 정도’를 평정하도록 한 후, 이를 미국인 표본의 측정치와 비교하고, 종교의 유무에 따라 비교하였다. 분석 결과, 한국인과 미국인이 공통적으로 강점 발견, 감사, 가능성 발견 요인에 해당되는 문항들을 성장으로 인식하는 정도가 높았던 반면, 영적 변화 요인은 성장으로 인식하는 정도가 낮았다. 이에 반해 대인관계 향상 요인의 경우에는 한국인은 감정표현의 증가, 미국인은 친밀감 향상과 의지하기를 성장으로 더욱 높게 인식하였다. 종교유무에 따른 분석 결과, 영적 성장에 해당되는 두 문항 모두 성장으로 인식하는 정도가 뚜렷하게 차이를 보였다. 이상의 결과를 바탕으로 문화적 맥락에 따른 외상 후 성장에 대해 논의하였으며, 본 연구의 한계점과 향후 연구의 제안점에 대해 언급하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to compare Korean perceptions of posttraumatic growth(PTG) depending on the national background and religious affiliation. The results showed that while most of the items in three domains(personal strength, appreciation of life, new possibilities) were considered to be indicative of growth, the items in the ‘spiritual change’ domain were the least representative of growth in both Koreans and Americans. However, the perceived indicators of items from the ‘relating to others’ domain varied between Koreans and Americans. As the results of comparing perceptions of growth according to the presence or absence of religiosity, any item in the ‘spiritual change’ was hardly considered as growth in the group with no religiosity. The relations between experiences and perceptions of PTG also varied depending on the religious affiliation. Based on the overall findings, the meaning and clinical implications of the current study regarding the cross-cultural differences in the perceptions of PTG were discussed.
