국문 초록

본 연구는 2015년 3월부터 2018년 6월까지 총 3년 3개월에 걸쳐 천문학 전공을 희망하는 3명의 과학영재를 대상으로 어린 시절 과학 학습의 특징과 과학영재학교라는 맥락이 학습자 정체성을 형성하는데 어떠한 의미가 있는지 그들의 내러티브를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 연구 결과, 천문학 전공을 희망하는 과학영재의 학습자 정체성에 가장 주목할 만한 특징은 유년기 동안 강렬하게 과학 독서에 몰입했던 시기가 초등 저학년에 공통으로 존재하며, 사교육과는 거리가 먼 자기주도학습을 통해 과학 학습을 진행해왔으며, 과도한 지적 흥분인 호기심, 가슴 떨림, 설렘, 신비함 등의 감정적 피드백을 통해 천체에 대한 흥미를 발전시킬 수 있었다. 과학영재학교의 교육과정에서의 결핍과 소외를 오히려 집중된 기대로 역전시킨 과학영재만이 천문학 전공 선택에 흔들림이 없는 경향이 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 통해, 과학영재학교 교육과정이 천문학 전공을 희망하는 학습자에게 어떻게 참여와 소외 기제로 작동할 수 있는지에 대한 본질적인 성찰이 이루어지길 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study was conducted over a total of three years and three months from March 2015 to June 2018, and three science-gifted students wishing to major in Astronomy participated in this study. We explored their narratives on the features of science learning in their childhood and the context of science gifted school for those who wish to major in Astronomy. As a result of the study, the most remarkable characteristics of the learners’ identity of gifted students are as follows. First of all, they all intensely immersed in science reading in their primary grades in elementary school. They have also progressed in science learning through self-directed learning instead of private education. Also, they were able to develop their interest in Astronomy by receiving very intense emotional feedback such as curiosity, heart racing, thrilling, mysterious, and excessive intellectual excitement. Only the students, who reversed deficiency and alienation experienced as a major in Astronomy with a rather concentrated expectation, showed a tendency to remain unchanged in choosing their major. We expect that this study will evoke the essential reflection on how the science gifted school curriculum works as a mechanism for participation and alienation to science gifted students who want to major in a specific science subject.
