국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 문화 사회학적 담론 분석 방법을 활용한 미디어 리터러시 교수 전략을 탐색하는 것이다. 현대 시민 사회에서 미디어는 자신이 송출하는 메시지가 공공선에 부합하다는 점을 대중에게 설득할 수 있는 자신만의 내러티브를 생성한다. 미래 세대인 청소년들이 미디어가 생성한 이러한 내러티브를 제대로 인지하도록 하기 위해서는 학교 교육과정에서 비판적인 미디어 리터러시를 적극적으로 다룰 필요가 있다. 이와 같은 문제의식에 기반하여 본 연구에서는 청소년들이 미디어가 생성한 담론을 해석하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있는 문화 사회학적 이론 틀에 기반한 미디어 리터러시 교수 모형을 고안하였다. 즉, 본 연구에서는 미디어 담론이 뉴스 사건들을 성스럽거나 혹은 속된 것으로 규정하는 이항 분류 체계에 강하게 의존하고 있다는 점에 주목하여 공공 이슈에 대한 미디어 분석에 초점을 맞춘 수업 지도안 사례를 제시하였다. 이 연구에서 고안한 미디어 리터러시 교수 모형의 적용을 통해 청소년의 시민적 자질이 향상될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study explores strategies for discourse analysis-based media literacy teaching using a cultural sociology approach. In contemporary civil society, the media creates its own narratives designed to persuade audiences that its messages correspond to the common good. To help future generations recognize such narratives, school curricula must include critical media literacy. The objective of this study is to develop a media literacy teaching model based on the theoretical framework of cultural sociology which will help students interpret media-created discourse. Such discourse relies heavily on a binary classification system, through which news events are defined as either sacred or profane. This paper provides a discussion of this theory, followed by the presentation of a sample lesson plan, which focuses on the media analysis of a public issue. It is expected that application of this model will foster civic competence among adolescents.
