국문 초록

본 연구는 2015 개정 영어과 선택 중심 교육과정 교과서의 난이도를 분석하기 위해 고등학교 일반 선택 및 진로 선택 교과목의 지문을 코퍼스학적 연구 방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 6개의 교과목(영어Ⅰ, 영어 독해와 작문, 영어Ⅱ, 실용 영어, 영어권 문화, 진로 영어) 23종의 교과서를 대상으로 이독 지수 및 어휘 수준을 분석한 결과, 실용 영어의 이독 지수가 가장 낮고 영어Ⅱ의 이독 지수가 가장 높으며 같은 교과목 내에서도 출판사에 따라 교과서 이독 지수의 편차가 큰 것으로 나타났다. 어휘 다양성 측면에서 6개 교과목의 교과서는 비슷한 수준을 보였으나 어휘 수준 측면에서는 교육부가 제시한 기본 어휘의 반영률 및 과목별 어휘 수를 반영한 난이도 차이를 나타냈다. 이상의 연구 결과는 영어과 교과목별 난이도의 차이가 크지는 않지만 존재하며 같은 교과 내에서도 교과서별 난이도의 편차가 뚜렷하다는 것을 보여준다. 본 연구 결과는 선택 과목 및 교과서의 선정, 학교교육과정 편성에 있어 시사점을 준다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

The present study is designed to examine the linguistic difficulty among high school English textbooks based on the 2015 revised elective-centered curriculum using a corpus-based analysis. To achieve this goal, the study analyzes the readability and vocabulary level of 23 textbooks across six subjects(EnglishⅠ, EnglishⅡ, English Reading and Writing, Practical English, English Culture, Career English). The results show that the readability of Practical English is the lowest while the readability of EnglishⅡ is the highest. In terms of vocabulary level, the result reflects a similar difficulty level among textbooks according to the vocabulary guideline indicated by the Ministry of Education, with a higher level of vocabulary in EnglishⅡ and English Culture. In conclusion, the study shows that there are slight differences in linguistic difficulty among high school English subjects and high school English textbooks based on the 2015 revised elective-centered curriculum. This study can provide implications for selecting English subjects or English textbooks and designing elective-centered curricula for individual schools to enhance the effects of the students-focused elective-centered curriculum in high schools.
