유아들의 자발적인 디지털 카메라 놀이 속 다양하고 복잡한 상호작용 이해하기

국문 초록

본 연구는 유아들의 자발적인 디지털 카메라 놀이의 경험을 통해 일상생활에서 어떻게 디지털 카메라를 이해하고, 카메라를 활용하여 어떠한 상호작용을 하는지 알아보았다. 이를 위해 연구자는 4개월 동안 만 5세 유아들(21명)과 함께 놀이하며 바깥놀이시간 유아들의 다양한 카메라 놀이들과 그 변화과정들을 참여 관찰하였다. 연구자의 필드노트, 인터뷰 전사본, 사진, 짧은 영상 등을 수집하고 질적 분석을 한 결과, 유아들은 디지털 카메라, 자신들의 몸의 움직임, 주변 인적 물적 환경, 친구들의 움직임, 방향, 빠르기, 거리, 각도 등을 고려하여 신체적, 물리적, 사회적으로 상호작용을 하며 이미지의 왜곡을 즐겼다. 유아들은 때론 예측 불가능한 형태로 놀이를 진행하기도 하였다. 또한 카메라를 둘러싼 다양한 사회문화적 담론들과 이미지, 게임 경험 등과의 가상적, 사회적, 복합적 상호작용을 통해 그들만의 독창적이고 즉흥적인 카메라 놀이를 즐기기도 하였다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 유아들의 자발적인 카메라 놀이 속 디지털 카메라는 신체적, 사회적, 일상적 실천들을 연결하는 중요한 매개체이자, 유아들의 신체적, 물리적, 사회적, 가상적, 복합적으로 상호 연결시켜주는 영향력 있는 주체자이며, 유아들의 독창적이고 즐거운 놀이공간이자 학습의 공간임을 주장한다. 본 연구는 유아와 디지털 카메라와의 관계를 보다 복잡하고 다양한 관점으로 바라보며 유아들의 디지털 놀이문화와 다양한 학습 가능성을 새롭게 바라볼 필요가 있음을 촉구한다.

영문 초록

This study is about how young children understand, interact with, and create their play culture in spontaneous digital camera play. To examine these interactions, I focused on 5-year-olds’ (21 children) outdoor plays for four months. As an assistant teacher and a co-player, I traced and analyzed the diverse, complicated, and unexpected process of digital play by observing and participating in their emerging play with a digital camera. As a result, young children physically and socially interacted with a digital camera, peers, environments, momentary body movements and tempos in their emerging camera play. In addition, they enjoyed their distorted images by consciously and unconsciously changing the distance and angle of the camera as a result of complex interactions with a digital camera in their everyday lives. Finally, young children also enjoyed creative camera play by virtually and socially interacting with their gaming experiences, social and cultural discourses in their daily practices. In children’s camera play, the digital camera is not only an important medium to connect to their physical, social, and everyday practices, but also an effective agent for physically, socially, and virtually interacting with peers and creative playful learning spaces. In doing so, this study urges teachers, parents, researchers, and policy makers to look into contemporary young children’s use of digital camera in a new light for understanding their diverse and complicated learning and play culture.
