고학력 만학여성의 노년기 자아통합에 대한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 고학력 만학여성의 자아통합 과정을 통해 노인들의 정서적ㆍ심리적 문제를 극복하도록 도울 수 있는 학문적 기반마련에 기여하는데 있다. 이를 달성하기 위하여 노년기 ‘자아통합’이 어떠한 경험과 과정을 통해 성취되고, ‘자아통합’의 모습은 어떠하며, ‘자아통합의 요인’은 어떤 것인가를 현상학적 관점을 통해 알아보았다. 본 연구는 2017. 7월부터 9월까지 4명의 참여자로부터 인터뷰와 전화 등 다양한 방법으로 자료수집을 하였고, Giorgi의 8단계 분석과정에 따라 분석하였다. 연구결과, 공통적으로 경험한 현상은 ‘자아통합’을 이루는 전 단계에서 어떤 형태든 ‘일상에서의 아픔’이 있었고, 아픔에서 벗어나기 위해 ‘탈출구로서 만학’을 선택한 것이었다. ‘자아통합’을 이루는 과정은 통찰과 인간행동에 대한 이해로부터 시작되었다. ‘자아통합을 이룬 모습’은 자신 및 타인에 대한 통찰과 이해로 인해 심리적 안정과 삶에 대한 만족감을 갖는 것이었다. 그리고 자아통합을 이루는 과정과 자아통합이 된 상태에서 나타난 ‘하위 구성요소’들이 ‘자아통합’의 ‘요인’이었다. 본 연구의 함의는 ‘자아통합’에 대해 직접적인 연구를 하였다는데 있고, 고령사회로 진입한 한국사회에서 노인의 ‘정서복지’를 위한 학문적 기초자료가 될 수 있으며, 노인교육의 방향을 설정할 수 있는 기초자료의 기반마련을 시도하였다는데 있다.

영문 초록

In this study, I aimed to contribute to establishing the base of academic solutions that can help the elderly overcome their emotional and psychological problems through the process in which the ego integrity of the highly educated women who acquire late learning is accomplished. To attain the objective, I examined what experiences and processes they go through to accomplish ‘ego integrity’; what ‘ego integrity is like; and what are the factors of ego integrity from a phenomenological perspective. I collected data through the interviews with and calls to 4 participants from July to September of 2017 and analyzed the collected data according to Giorgi 8 step analysis. The findings are as follows. The phenomenon they commonly experienced throughout 8 steps was ‘pain in daily life and they chose ‘late learning as an escape from it . The process of ‘ego integrity’ started from insight and understanding of human behavior. ‘Accomplished ego integrity’ results in psychological stability and satisfaction with life through insight into and understanding of own ego and others. The subfactors that manifest in the ongoing process to and at the completed state of ego integrity are the factors for ‘ego integrity’. This study has a significance in that it attempted a direct study on ‘ego integrity and proposed an academic data that can be the base for the research in ‘emotional welfare in Korea that has already entered an aging society. In addition, it tried to pave the ground on which senior education can find its direction.
