드라마 등장인물에 대한 개인 평가어 연구: 체계기능언어학의 평가어 이론의 관점

국문 초록

목적 이 글의 목적은 체계기능언어학(SFL)의 담화의미 분석 이론 중 하나인 평가어(Appraisal)를 특정 개인의 평가어 패턴과 관련지어서 분석해 보는 것이다. SFL에서는 이것을 개인 평가어(Signature)라고 부른다. 방법 드라마 <사랑이 뭐길래>는 등장인물들의 개성이 뚜렷하고 다양한 가치관들이 대립하는 갈등 구조로 되어 있어서, 개인 평가어의 차이를 연구하기에 좋은 연구 대상이다. 총 55화 중 특히 제 1화에는 주요 등장인물들이 모두 등장한다. 따라서 본고는 제1화의 전체 대본에 등장하는 인물 11명의 개인 평가어를 조사대상으로 삼았다. 구체적인 작업은 2단계로 진행되었다. 첫째는, 태도평가, 행위평가, 정황평가, 강도평가의 유형과 빈도를 조사하는 어휘적 평가어(I)이고, 둘째는 문장의 수, 서법의 종류, 청자높임법의 종류, 개입 평가어를 조사하는 문법적 평가어(II)이다. 결과 위 두 단계의 분석 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. (1)욕구불만형 심애는 태도, 행위, 정황, 강도, 개입 평가어 모두에서 압도적으로 빈도가 높다. 심애는 모든 종류의 어휘적 평가어를 거침없이 표현한다. (2)억압받고 비뚤어진 순자는 심애의 절반 정도로 평가어를 사용하지만, 기복이 매우 심하다. 자신의 느낌을 나타내는 태도평가어, 발화의 강도를 조절하는 강도평가어는 높지만, 다른 사람의 행위를 평가하는 행위평가어, 그리고 주어진 상황에 대한 사회적 존경이나 사회적 인정 여부를 표현하는 정황평가어는 낮다. (3)가부장적이고 독단적인 이사장은 행위평가와 강도평가를 잘 활용하고, 태도평가, 정황평가는 상대적으로 낮다. (4) 우유부단한 박이사는 행위평가(1)를 거의 하지 않는다. 다른 평가어들, 태도, 정황, 강도는 그때그때 중간 정도의 빈도로 적절하게 사용한다. (5)개입가능과 개입차단 모두에서 여성이 남성보다 개입 평가어에 적극적이다. 결론 평가어에 대한 연구는 적용 범위가 매우 넓어서 확장성이 큰 연구 영역이다. 개인 평가어에 대한 연구도 좀 더 광범위하게 분석 대상을 확장해 보면 어떤 새로운 평가어 패턴을 찾아낼 수도 있지 않을까 기대해 본다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this paper is to analyze Appraisal, one of the theories of discourse meaning analysis in Systemic Functional Linguistics(SFL), in relation to the Appraisal patterns of specific individuals. In SFL, this is called Signature. Methods Therefore, this paper focuses on the Signature of 11 characters in the entire script of episode 1 in . The specific work was conducted in two stages. First, lexical evaluators (I), which examines the types and frequency of Affect, Judgment, Appreciation, and Graduation; and second, grammatical evaluators (II), which examines the number of sentences, types of Mood, types of addressee deference and Engagement words. Results To summarize the results of the above two steps, (A) Need-dissatisfaction type Sim-ae is overwhelmingly frequent in Affect, Judgement, Appreciation, Graduation, and Engagement. She expresses all kinds of lexical evaluatives in a bold way. (B) Repressed and perverse type Sun-ja uses about half as many evaluatives as Sim-ae, but with very different ups and downs. Affect, which express how she feels, and Graduation, which control the intensity of her speech, are high, but Judgement, which evaluates the actions of others, and Appreciation, which express social respect or social approval of a given situation, are low. (C) Paternalistic and assertive Isa-jang is good at utilizing Judgement and Graduation, and is relatively low in Affect and Appreciation. (D) indecisive Park-isa rarely uses Jedgement. He uses the other evaluative words, Affect, Appreciation, Graduation, moderately frequently and appropriately. (E) Women are more likely than men to use Engagement for both setting(‘case-open’) and settled(‘case-closed’). Conclusions The study of Appraisal has a wide range of applications and is a highly scalable area of research. It is expected that the study of Signature can also find some generalizable patterns of Appraisal system if the analysis target is broader.
