국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 패러디 그림책을 활용한 스마로그형 영어 독서 활동이 초등학생의 비판적 리터러시 능력에 미치는 효과를 탐구하고자 하였다. 방법 이를 위하여 서울시 소재 초등학교 4학년 20명을 대상으로 2학기 중 약 10주에 걸쳐 패러디 그림책을 활용한 영어 독서 활동을 하였다. 다양한 에듀테크를 활용하여 대면 및 온라인으로 수업을 진행하였으며, 수업 활동지, 저널, 비판적 리터러시 검사지, 소감문, 면담 등의 자료를 수집하였다. 주로 질적 분석을 위주로 아동들의 비판적 리터러시 양상을 분석하였고, 이와 함께 비판적 리터러시 검사 결과를 양적으로 분석하여 논의에 활용하였다. 결과 첫째, 패러디 그림책을 활용한 스마로그형 영어 독서 활동은 아동들의 비판적 리터러시 함양에 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 특히, 고정관념 탈피에 대한 점수가 높게 나타났으며, 다양한 관점을 이해하고 종합적으로 판단하고자 하는 경향이 길러질 수 있었다. 둘째, 구체적인 반응 양상을 살펴보면, 고정관념 탈피 영역에서는 아동들이 외모나 성격, 성 역할, 그리고 전형적인 플롯 전개 방식에 대한 고정관념에서 벗어날 수 있었다. 다양한 관점 이해 영역에서는 책에 등장하는 여러 인물들의 입장을 이해하고 상황을 종합적으로 판단하는 능력을 기를 수 있었다. 마지막으로, 텍스트 재해석 영역에서는 텍스트에는 작가의 의도나 목적이 담겨있음을 이해하고 자신의 방식으로 기존의 텍스트를 재해석하여 표현할 수 있었다. 결론 초등영어 수업에서 대면 수업 중심의 에듀테크 활용을 통해 아동들의 비판적 리터러시 능력을 효과적으로 길러줄 수 있다. 또한, EFL 상황에서도 패러디 그림책을 활용하여 아동들이 텍스트를 분석하고 평가하는 것이 가능하다. 이 연구를 기반으로 그림책을 활용한 스마로그형 영어 수업을 통해 아동들의 다양한 리터러시를 함양할 수 있는 연구들이 계속해서 시도되기를 바란다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of smarlogue(smart+analogue) type reading activities using parody picture books on elementary school students’ critical literacy. Methods The researcher selected 20 fourth-grade students and taught English lessons over a period of 10 weeks. Classes were conducted both online and offline utilizing various edutech tools. Different types of data such as worksheets, journals, critical literacy test, questionnaire and interview were collected. They were analyzed mainly in a qualitative way to identify the critical literacy patterns of children, and the results of the critical literacy test were also quantitatively analyzed. Results The results of the study were as follows: First, the smarlogue type primary English reading activities had a positive effect on developing children’s critical literacy. Especially, the score for overcoming stereotypes was found to be high, and ability to understand various view points and make comprehensive judgments could be nurtured. Second, children broke away the stereotypes about certain character’s appearance or personality, gender roles, and typical plot development in the story. They also considered different characters’ views not only those of the main character, and judged the situation more comprehensively. In addition, they understood that every text contains the author’s intention or messages and intepreted and discussed it in their own way. Conclusions Through smarlogue type primary English reading activities, children can learn critical literacy effectively. In addition, even in the EFL situation, it is possible for children to analyze and evaluate texts through an English reading activities using parody picture books. It is hoped that studies that can cultivate children's various literacy skills through a smarlogue type English reading continue to be attempted.
