고대 악기의 보존과 활용에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

축(筑)은 중국 고대 현악기로서 선진 시대에 기원하여 한나라에 융성했으나 송나라 이후 소멸되었다. 2200여 년 간 소멸되었던 축은 1973년에 출토된 중국 호남성 장사시 마왕퇴(馬王堆) 1호 한묘의 채색칠관의 그림을 통해서 발견되었고, 이후 음악고고학자들의 발굴과 연구가 지속되어져 왔다. 그러나 미비한 고대 문헌과 제한적인 출토량으로 축에 대한 형성과 구조, 연주법에 대해 합치하지 못하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 축이 기원되었다고 추정되는 선진시대, 가장 활발히 연주되었던 한나라, 삼국시대 이후의 축에 대한 형상과 구조 및 연주법 대해 각 왕조의 사료들과 출토된 유물을 통해 세부적으로 정리한다. 송나라 시기에 축이 소멸했다고 주장하는 학자들의 의견에 따르면 비파와 같은 외래 악기, 음향이 우월한 양금 등의 악기가 보급되고 당시의 정치적 압력이 축이 연주되기에 부정적으로 작용했을 것이라 제기하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 그 외에 축이 소멸된 내재적, 외재적 원인을 고찰한다. 마지막으로 21세기에 축이 복원됨으로써 언론과 사회적 관심을 집중 받았던 시기를 조명하고, 여러 고대의 악기가 복원되고 연주된 사례들과 비교해 보면서 전통악기의 복원과 활용에 대한 가치를 함의해볼 뿐만 아니라 이를 통해 전통음악과 악기가 보존되기 위해 필요한 자세와 사회적 태도에 대해 고찰한다.

영문 초록

The zhu was an ancient Chinese string instrument that originated in the early Qin era, prospered in the Han dynasty, and disappeared after the Song dynasty. It disappeared for 2,200 years until it was discovered in a tomb at Mawang Dui, Changsha, Hunan province. Since then, music archaeologists continued to excavate and study, but due to the lack of ancient literary sources and limited excavation, its formation, structure, and playing techniques are still under debate. This study details the shape, formation, and playing techniques through historical sources and excavated artifacts from the early Qin era, where the zhu is thought to have originated in the Han dynasty where the zhu prospered, and after the Three Kingdoms Era. Some scholars argue that zhu disappeared in the Song era due to foreignorigin instruments such as the pipa, instruments with superior sound such as yangqin, and negative political pressure at the time. This study considers other intrinsic and extrinsic causes of the disappearance of zhu. Lastly, this study highlights the period where the zhu attracted media coverage and social attention, compares it with other cases of ancient instrument restoration, and examines the value of restoring and utilizing ancient instruments as well as the social condition to facilitate traditional music and instrument restoration.
