구글 미트와 연동한 구글 클래스 수업에 대한 학습자 인식

국문 초록

최근 코로나19 시대에 모바일과 웹기반 기술의 상용화가 증가추세에 있다는 것은 의심의 여지가 없다. 코로나19의 확산으로 학생들은 상시로 인터넷에 의존해서 접속해 왔다. 본 연구의 목적은 웹기반 비디오 챗서비스인 구글 미트와 연동한 클라우드 기반 학습환경인 구글 클래스룸을 이용한 비대면 온라인 수업에 대한 학생들의 인식을 조사하는 데에 있다. 본 연구의 참가는 모대학의 기초 영어 강좌를 수강한 38명의 대학 1학년 신입생들이다. 학기초와 학기말 두 차례에 걸쳐서 설문지 조사를 실시하였고 학기초는 학생들의 인적사항을 조사하고 학기말에는 구글 클래스룸 학습 경험에 대한 학습자 반응을 조사하였다. 참가자 관찰노트(participant observation)와 온라인 강의평가 자료도 참고로 활용되었다. 양적 자료는 기술통계분석을 실시하고 질적 자료는 빈도수에 따라 주요 theme을 카테고리화 하였다. 전반적으로 구글 미트와 연동한 구글 클래스룸의 효과에 대한 학생들의 평가는 부정적이기보다는 긍정적이었다. 학생들은 구글 클래스룸이 유용한 온라인 플랫폼이라고 인식했고 구글 미트를 활용한 온라인 실시간 학습이 동기부여가 되고 도움이 된다고 반응하였다. 미래 영어 수업에 대해서는 구글 클래스의 기능이 오프라인 수업과 통합되는 것을 선호했고 구글 미트를 이용한 수업후 복습 활동에 다수가 긍정적이었다. 분석결과는 또한 기술적인 문제점과 관련된 이용자 경험을 보여 주었다.

영문 초록

There is little doubt that mobile and web-based technology is becoming increasingly ubiquitous in this era of COVID-19. The expansion of COVID-19 has caused students to rely on being connected to the internet at all times. The purpose of this exploratory study was to examine students’ perceptions regarding the use of Google Classroom as a cloud-based learning environment in combination with the web-based video chat service “Google Meet.” The participants in the study were 38 college freshmen enrolled in a beginning-level English course at a S university in Korea. They were given questionnaires at the beginning and at the end of the semester to investigate their backgrounds at the onset and their perspectives based on their online learning experiences. In addition, participant observation and online course evaluation were incorporated. The quantitative data were analyzed statistically, and qualitative responses were categorized into themes based on frequency. Overall, the students’ evaluation of the effectiveness of Google Classroom in conjunction with Google Meet was more positive than negative. The students perceived Google Classroom as a useful online platform. Concerning the learners’ perceptions toward online synchronous learning using Google Meet, they perceived it as a motivating and useful learning experience. With regard to the students’ need for future English classes, students mainly considered that Google Classroom should be incorporated into the classroom learning environment and Google Meet may be employed for possible use as review material after class. The results of the analysis also revealed concerns about technological problems and related user experiences.
