국문 초록

이 연구는 영구기관 발명가들의 사례를 심리․사회학적적 관점으로 분석함으로써 과잉 동기와 과제 집착의 어두운 면을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 뉴스, 방송 영상, 기사, 관련 댓글 등 2005년부터 2018년까지 나타난 영구기관 발명가 3인과 관련된 자료들을 수집하고, 반복적 비교분석법을 활용해 귀납적으로 범주화했다. 연구 결과 영구 기관 발명가들의 강한 신념과 동기로 인해 이들의 발명은 동기기반추론, 과잉확신편 향, 매몰비용효과 편향 등과 같은 인지편향의 영향을 받고 있었다. 또한 과학사회적 측면에서 영구기관 발명가들은 스스로 발명품의 성능을 검증하는 등 과학적 규범과는 어긋나는 연구를 수행했다. 하지만 실제 전문가들은 적절한 피드백 부족으로 오히려 영구기관 발명의 정당화가 강화되었다. 또한 영구기관 발명가들은 과학의 본성에 대한 잘못된 이해를 나타냈다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 미래 발명영재교 육을 비롯해 탐구교육을 강조하는 과학교육에서의 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study focused on the dark side of excessive motivation and task commitment by analyzing the case of perpetual-motion machine inventors based on psychological and sociological perspective. Data were collected mainly on news, YouTube videos, newspaper articles, and related comments about three perpetual-motion machine inventor which were showed from 2005 to 2018. The collected data were inductively categorized using constant comparative analysis method. As a result of the study, we found that perpetual-motion invention was influenced by cognitive biases such as motivated reasoning, overconfidence, and suck cost effect bias due to inventors’ strong motivation and belief. Also, in the sociological perspective, perpetual-motion machine inventors conducted their work contrary to scientific norms based on the fact that they verified their performance of inventions by themselves. However, lack of real experts’ adequate feedback on their inventions strengthened their justification of permanent institutional inventions. Moreover, perpetual-motion machine inventors showed misunderstanding about the nature of science. Based on the results of the research, this study suggested implications for science education that emphasizes inquiry education as well as invention gifted education.
