국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 Blasi가 제안한 ‘도덕적 자아’ 이론의 도덕교육적 함의를 밝히는 데에 있다. Blasi는 도덕성 발달을 통합적으로 접근하는 과정에서 ‘도덕적 자아’ 개념을 거점으로 삼았다. 현재 이 ‘도덕적 자아’ 개념은 주로 인지와 행동의 가교를 설명 하는 데에 의의를 두고 있는 것으로 이해되고 있다. 그러나 만약 추가적인 설명 없이 이러한 방식으로만 도덕적 자아의 의의를 규정하고 나면, 마치 Blasi의 논의가 인지를 통해 주체의 표면적인 행동의 변화에만 관심을 기울이고 있다는 의심을 받을 여지가 있다. 이런 방식의 이해는 ‘도덕적 자아’ 개념이 주는 의의를 부당하게 왜곡한 것에 해당한다. Blasi가 제안한 ‘도덕적 자아’는 ‘도덕적 통합’의 개념과 함께 논의되 어야 하며, 이렇게 파악될 때에만 그의 의도를 올바르게 이해할 수 있다. 단적으로 말하여, Blasi는 인간의 심성은 무엇이며, 심성함양은 어떻게 가능한가 하는 중요한 질문을 던지고 있다고 보아야 한다.

영문 초록

The present study aims to identify the moral educational implications of the “moral self” theory proposed by Blasi. Blasi conceived of the “moral self” as a key foothold in the process of approaching integrated moral development. This concept of “moral self” is currently understood as significant in explaining the bridge between cognition and behavior. However, describing the significance of the moral self only in these terms, without further explanation, may lead to the perception that Blasi s discussion is only concerned with changes in the superficial actions of subjects through cognition. This perception distorts the significance of the concept of the “moral self.” Blasi’s concept of “moral self” should be discussed with concept of “moral integration,” because his intentions can only be understood properly when viewed in this way. In simple terms, it is important to understand that Blasi was posing important questions about what human mind is, and how to cultivate it.
