초등학생들이 생각하는 좋은 지리수업의 의미

국문 초록

본 연구는 학습자 중심의 초등지리교육을 지향하는 기초 연구로서 학생들이 생각 하는 ‘좋은 지리수업’이란 무엇인지에 초점을 맞추고 그 의미를 탐색하였다. 학생들의 배움이 중시되는 초등지리수업에 한 걸음 더 다가가기 위해서는 배움의 주체인 학생 들의 수업에 대한 생각, 요구 등에 귀를 기울일 필요가 있기 때문이다. 이를 위해 초등학교 6학년 학생 12명과 함께 수업 동영상을 매개로 자신의 지리수업 경험을 떠올려 심층 면담을 실시하는 질적 연구를 수행하였으며, 연구 결과 학생들은 지리수업의 목적/목표, 내용, 방법, 평가 측면을 아우르며 다양한 요구를 드러내었다. 이 중에서도 특히 내용 측면에서는 이해가 잘 돼서 내용이 오래 기억에 남는 수업, 실제 우리사회의 문제를 다루는 수업을 지향하였고, 방법 측면에서는 이해를 돕는 다양한 자료를 활용하는 수업, 직접 참여하고 체험할 수 있는 수업, 지리적 사고력을 키워주는 수업을 지향하였다. 본 연구는 좋은 지리수업을 바라보는 관점의 주체를 교사에서 학생으로 전환함으로써, 학생의 배움이 중시되는 학습자 중심의 초등지리교육으로 나아가 고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study is basic research aiming at learner-centered elementary geography education, which focused on what would be ‘a good geography class’ perceived by students and explored its meaning. To take a step forward to an elementary geography class in which importance is attached to students’ learning, it is necessary to pay attention to thoughts on and needs for the class in them, who are the subjects of learning. For this purpose, this study conducted qualitative research through an in-depth interview with 12 sixth graders in elementary schools by recalling their own experience of geography classes with the media of the class videos, and as a result of the study, the students revealed various needs across the aspects of purpose/objective, content, method and evaluation of the geography class. Especially, in terms of contents, they aimed at a class they could understand well, which could be long memorable and a class dealing with the real problems of our society. Also, in terms of method, they aimed at a class using various materials to help them understand, in which they could participate and experience directly and a class to develop geographic thinking skills. This study would proceed to the learner-centered elementary geography education in which importance is attached to students’ learning by converting the subjects of the perspective on a good geography class from teachers to students.
