국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 2009 개정과 2015 개정 교육과정에서 개발된 초등학교 3, 4학년 영어 교과서에 수록된 게임을 비교 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 2009 개정 3-4학년 영어 교과서 10종과 2015 개정 3-4학년 교과서 10종을 수집하였고, 각 교과서에 포함된 게임 활동들은 조직형태, 언어기능, 게임자료, 진행방식, 승부결정요인의 5가지 기준으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 2015 개정 교육과정의 영어 교과서에 포함된 모둠 활동의 비율이 2009년에 비해 높았다. 둘째, 2009, 2015 교과서 모두에서 말하기와 듣기 기능의 게임이 가장 높은 비율을 차지했다. 셋째, 다른 게임 자료에 비해 그림 카드가 모든 교과서에게 가장 빈번하게 활용되었다. 넷째, 모든 교과서는 모둠 간의 협동보다는 경쟁 요소를 포함한 게임을 많이 수록하고 있었다. 마지막으로, 행운보다는 학생들의 언어 능력에 의해 결과가 결정되는 게임이 모든 교과서에서 더 많이 활용되었다. 연구 결과에 기반한 교육적 함의를 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze game activities in the 3rd and 4th grade elementary school English textbooks between the 2009 and 2015 revised national curriculum. In order to do so, total twenty 3rd and 4th grade English textbooks, 10 textbooks based on 2009 revised national curriculum and 10 textbooks based on 2015 revised national curriculum, were collected and analyzed. Game activities were analyzed using the following five categories: organizational patterns, language skills, instructional materials, game progress and determinant factors of competition. Results of the analyses are as follows: First, the proportion of group work in the 2015 English textbooks was higher than that in 2009. Secondly, speaking and listening games were showed to have the highest proportion both 2009 and 2015 textbooks. Thirdly, compared to other game materials, picture cards were used most frequently for game activities in all textbooks. Fourthly, all the textbooks included more game activities involving competition than cooperation in groups. Finally, all the textbooks contained more game activities which the outcomes is decided by the students’ language ability rather than luck. Based on the research findings, pedagogical implications are discussed
