대학생의 학습공동체 참여 여부와 활동 수준에 따른 효과 차이: 의사소통능력과 학업성취도를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 학습공동체 참여 여부와 활동 수준에 따라 학습자의 학업성취도와 의사소통능력에 대한 학습공동체 효과가 유의하게 다른지를 검증하는 것이다. 이를 위해 G대학 재학생 895명(학습공동체에 우수하게 참여하여 지원금을 받은 집단의 학생 193명, 학습공동체에 일반적으로 참여하여 지원금을 받지 못한 집단의 학생 503 명, 학습공동체 미참여 집단의 학생 199명)이 연구에 참여하였다. 이들에 대한 활동 수준의 차이를 알아보기 위해 학습공동체 평가기준을 마련하였다. 집단별 의사소통 능력 점수와 학업성취도를 프로그램 실시 전후에 수집하여 분석한 결과, 첫째, 학업 성취도 향상에 대한 학습공동체의 긍정적 효과는 학습공동체에 우수하게 참여한 집단에만 나타났다. 학습공동체 일반참여 집단의 사후 학업성취도는 통제집단보다 유의하게 높지 않았다. 이 결과는 학업성취도 향상에 있어 학습공동체 활동 수준이 중요함을 시사한다. 둘째, 의사소통능력 향상에 대한 학습공동체의 긍정적 효과는 학습 공동체에 우수하게 참여한 집단과 일반적으로 참여한 집단 모두에게 나타났다. 이 결과는 학습공동체 활동 수준과 무관하게 지속적인 학습모임에 참여만으로도 학습자의 의사소통능력이 향상될 수 있으며, 지원금 지급과 상관없이 프로그램 참여만으로도 유의한 성과를 기대할 수 있음을 의미한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine whether or not the effect of learning community on academic achievement and communication skills is different depending on the level of learning community activities. 895 college students responded pre and post surveys of communication skills and their GPA data were gathered. Participants were classified into an experimental group and a control group. An experimental group had 696 students who participated in learning community program for a semester. The group was divided into learning communities with high level and learning communities with low level depending on the level of learning community activities, again. A control group had 199 students who did not participate in any program of the center for teaching and learning. One-way analysis of variance, covariate analysis, and post-hoc analysis were conducted. The result of this study indicated that the learning communities with high level showed high academic achievement than the learning communities with low level and a control group. There was no difference of academic achievement between the learning communities with low level and a control group. The result implies that the level of learning community activities might be matter considering the improvement of academic achievement. The finding of the study also indicated that both learning communities with high and low levels showed significantly higher communication skills than a control group. here was no difference of communication skills between the learning communities with high and low levels. The result implies that the level of learning community activities might not take a key role to enhance communication skills. Implications of the results are discussed.
