유‧초 연계 관점에서 본 미국의 CCSS 언어교육과정과 우리나라 언어교육과정의 비교연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 미국의 CCSS 언어교육과정과 우리나라 누리과정 의사소통영역 및 2015 개정 초등학교 1학년 국어 내용을 비교 분석함으로써 두 나라의 언어교육과정에서 나타난 유 초 연계의 특징 알아보고 우리나라 유 초 언어교육의 연계성을 위 한 적절한 방향을 모색하는데 있다. 분석준거는 선행연구를 참고하여 목표, 내용범주 및 내용, 세부내용으로 설정하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 미국 CCSS 언어교육과정은 만 5세 유치원부터 초등학교 및 상급학교까지의 연계성을 고려하여 미래의 ‘대학, 직업, 인생의 성공’을 위한 포괄적 목표를 제시하고 있다. 둘째, 미국 CCSS 언어교육과정은 우리나라 누리과정 의사소통영역과는 달리 말(Language)이라는 내용범주를 제시하여 표준어의 규칙 이해, 단어 및 문장과의 관계 이해, 단어 습득 및 사용 등 학습과 관련된 내용을 제시하였다. 또한 학교제도가 시작되는 유치원부터 ‘읽기’ 영역이 강조되어 교사가 다루어야 하는 내용을 세부적으로 제시하고 있다. 셋째, 미국 CCSS유치원과 1학년 언어교육과정은 동일한 내용범주로 구성되어있고 세부내용에 유치원과 1학년과의 수준을 달리하여 구체적인 예를 제시하고 있다. 우리나라 유 초 언어교육의 연계를 위해서는 교육과정 개정 시기를 동일하게 하여 교육과정을 공동개발하고, 만 5세와 초등학교 1학년 언어교육내용은 공통 내용범주 안에서 세부내용이 심화되는 방향으로 구성될 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to compare and analyze the Common Core State Standards(CCSS) for language arts in the United States and the national language arts curriculum in Korea for kindergarten and first grade. With the results as basis, this study intended to provide suggestions and directions for improving continuity of language arts curriculum from kindergarten to first grade. The CCSS for language arts in the United States, the language arts of Nuri curriculum, and the national language arts curriculum for first grade in Korea were reviewed. Results of this study indicated that CCSS encompasses comprehensive educational goals that promote literacy skills and concepts for success in college, career, and life based on continuity from kindergarten to higher grades. On the contrary, Nuri curriculum provides specific educational goals that focus on children’s basic communication skills. Different from Nuri curriculum, CCSS stipulate “language” standards that include the essential rules of common written and spoken English. CCSS also concentrates on understanding words and phrases and their relationship in relation with children’s learning. Unlike the national language arts curriculum in Korea, CCSS for kindergarten and first grade comprises similar categories-reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language-and employs detailed examples based on the grade level. Simultaneous development of curriculum must be considered to strengthen continuity from kindergarten to first grade. In addition, the language arts curriculum for kindergarten and first grade should specify details under the same categories.
