국문 초록

과거, 현재, 미래가 공존하는 오늘날 전 세계의 현대성과 다양성의 문제에 있어 전통에 어떻게 현대에 융합되고새로운 창조로 이어질 수 있는지에 대한 연구의 필요성이 대두된다. 이러한 배경에서 본 연구자는 조선 시대 대표판소리 중 하나인 수궁가 의 주인공인 토끼와 자라 그리고 호랑이가 가지는 원형성과 그 상징이 도상과 구비문학을 통하여 고대에서 현재에 이르기까지 대중들에게 인식되고 향유되어온 양상을 분석하고 그러한 원형성이 현대와 융합되어 확산되는 현상과 그 문화적 의미를 연구하였다. 한국의 동물상징은 고대 원시 신앙으로 출발하여 시대에 따라 양반층과 서민층 모두의 욕망과 염원을 수용하여 때로는 인간의 육체적 건강과 수명을 지켜주고 병을낫게 해 주며 귀신을 물리쳐 액을 면하게 해 주고 인간의 안위를 지켜줄 수 있는 신성한 영력을 가진 존재로서 삶에 찌든 인간들에게 위로와 안정을 주었고, 때로는 사회의 약자의 모습 혹은 강자의 모습을 상징하며 이면에 감춰진 씁쓸한 현실을 해학과 웃음으로 극복할 수 있게 하였다. 이날치 밴드의 ‘범 내려온다’라는 새로운 수궁가 의재해석은 한국 문화 속 동물상징의 역사를 현대를 살아가는 우리의 시간과 공간 위에 전통음악과 현대음악의 조합, 전통복식과 현대패션의 조합, 독특한 춤사래에 녹여 한국 곳곳의 현재와 과거를 연결하였다. 동물이라는 주체는 국적과 관계없이 한국이라는 장소가 개연성이 발생하는 새로운 장소가 돼줄 것이라는 기대감을 증폭시킨다. 이는 여행에 대한 기대감과 융합되고 그 장소는 한국의 어느 곳도 될 수 있는 것이다. 대중들은 자신들의 장소에수궁가 속 동물들을 끌어들여 밈으로 자신들의 이야기를 덧붙여 참여한다. 우리는 수궁가 의 동물 주인공들인토끼, 거북이 그리고 호랑이라는 동물들의 다양한 상징을 공유하며 같은 한국인, 한민족임을 자각하고 자신이 속해 살고 있는 세계의 상징과 그 의미를 타자들과 상호작용하면서 소속감과 문화정체성을 갖게 된다.

영문 초록

In today’s world where the past, present, and future coexist, the need for research on howtradition can be fused with modernity and lead to new creation is emerging in the problem ofmodernity and diversity around the world. Against this background, the researcher studied howthe original symbols have been recognized, enjoyed, and spread by the public from ancient timesto the present, centering on the main characters of ‘Sugungga’, which recently stimulated the spreadof traditional culture. The animal symbol of Korea started with ancient primitive beliefs andembraced the desires and aspirations of both the aristocrats and the common people accordingto the times. Sometimes, it protects human physical health and lifespan, heals diseases, repelsdemons, exempts from evil, and has divine spiritual power that can protect human well-being. Itsymbolizes the figure or the strong, and the bitter reality hidden behind it can be overcome withhumor and laughter. The reinterpretation of the new ‘Sugungga’, “Tiger Coming,” by Leenalchiband, connects the present and past of many parts of Korea by melting the history of animalsymbols in Korean culture into a combination of traditional and contemporary music, traditionalcostumes and modern fashion, and unique dance history. For foreigners, the subject of an animalwithout nationality and time amplifies the expectation that Korea will become a new place whereprobability arises. Such expectations are fused with expectations for travel, and the place can beanywhere in Korea. The public invites animals from ‘Sugungga’ to their places and adds theirstories as memes to participate. We realize that we are the same Korean and Korean people bysharing the various symbols of the animals, such as rabbits, turtles, and tigers, which are themain characters of ‘Sugungga’, and gain a sense of belonging as a Korean and cultural identityby interacting with others about the symbols and meanings of the world we live in.
