국문 초록

이 논문은 박인환의 초기 시와 중기시를 ‘희망’과 ‘불안’의 두 키워드로 살펴봄으로써 세계를 대하는 시적 주체의 고뇌와 의식 세계를 보다 면밀히 관찰하는 데 그 목적이 있다. ‘일제강점기’, ‘해방 정국’, ‘6.25 전쟁’ 등의 역사적 격변을 경험했던 박인환은 ‘시 쓰기’를 통해 험난한 사회와 싸우고자 했다. 시인이 선시집 <후기>에서 밝히고있듯, 그의 시작(詩作) 활동은 ‘시대와 싸우며 가장 의지할 수 있었던 것’으로 요약될 수 있는 것이다. 박인환의 초기 시는 해방 후 혼란한 사회에 대한 시인의 현실 인식을 잘 반영하고 있다. 박인환은 공동체 의식, 즉 ‘연대’를통해 낙관적인 미래로 나아갈 수 있다는 ‘희망’을 견지했다. 그러나 동인 활동의 실패, 남로당 사건 등의 개인적고난을 겪으면서 ‘희망’의 시선에서 밝은 미래의 가능성을 엿보고자 했던 그의 세계 인식은 점차 ‘불안’으로 이행하게 된다. 1950년, 한국 전쟁을 기점으로 박인환의 시는 완전한 ‘불안’의 세계를 담지하게 된다. 그러나 그의 시에서 나타나는 ‘불안’은 전쟁이라는 특정 상황이 아닌, 개인의 ‘실존’의 문제와 맞닿아 있다. ‘공포’가 두려움을 야기하는 특정한 상황 속에서 나타나는 감정이라면, ‘불안’은 자기가 불안해하는 그것이 무엇인지 알 수 없는, 즉 대상이 불확실한 감정이다. 박인환의 경우, 시적 주체의 ‘불안’을 야기하는 것은 자기 존재에 대한 근원적인 물음에서부터 기인한다. ‘불안’의 세계는 ‘나’라는 존재에 대한 끊임없는 고민을 유발하며, ‘불안’의 기분 속에서 세계는 그 의미를 상실한다. 박인환의 시에서 나타나는 ‘신의 부재’는 무의미의 세계를 표상하는 독특한 지점을 내포한다. 신의 전능한힘이 인간의 삶을 구원해주지 못하는 세계에서, 개인의 유한한 삶은 오로지 개인의 몫이 되고 만다. 이로써 시적주체는 ‘죽음’과 더 가까워지고, ‘죽음’과 직면함으로써 자기 고유의 존재 가능성을 획득하게 된다. 박인환 시에 나타나는 ‘희망’과 ‘불안’의 두 세계는 시대를 극복하고자 한 고뇌의 산물이라는 점에서 그의 시의 한계점으로 회자되어온 ‘허무주의’와 ‘감상성’의 문제를 극복할 수 있는 가능성을 보여준다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to more closely observe the world of agony and consciousnessof the poetic subject dealing with the world by examining Park In-hwan’s early and mid-term poemsas two keywords: hope and anxiety. Park In-hwan, who experienced historical upheaval such asJapanese colonial era, Liberation Jungkook, and the 6.25 War, tried to fight a tough society throughPoetry Writing. As the poet reveals in “The Collection of Poetry” and “The Later”, his beginningactivities can be summarized as “what he was able to rely on the most while fighting the times.”His writing activities can be summarized as “Park In-hwan’s early poems reflect the poet’sperception of the reality of a chaotic society after liberation. Park In-hwan maintained his “hope”that he could move toward an optimistic future through a sense of community, that is, solidarity. However, the possibility of a bright future from the perspective of “hope” through personal hardshipssuch as the failure of the driver’s activities and the Namrodang incident. Starting with the Korean War in 1950, Park In-hwan’s poems contained a complete world of“anxiety.” However, the “anxiety” that appears in his poem is not related to a specific situationcalled war, but to the problem of individual existence. If “fear” is an emotion that appears in aspecific situation that causes fear, “anxiety” is an emotion in which you do not know what it isthat you are anxious about, that is, an uncertain object. In the case of Park In-hwan, causing the‘anxiety’ of the poetic subject stems from the fundamental question of one’s existence. The worldof ‘anxiety’ causes constant concern about the existence of ‘me’, and in the mood of ‘anxiety’,the world loses its meaning. The absence of God in Park In-hwan’s poem implies a unique pointrepresenting the world of meaning. In a world where God’s almighty power cannot save humanlife, an individual s finite life is solely up to the individual. As a result, the poetic subject becomescloser to ‘death’ and acquires its own possibility of existence by facing ‘death’. The two worlds of“hope” and “anxiety,” which appear in Park In-hwan’s poem, show the possibility of overcoming theproblems of “nihilism” and “sensitivity,” which have been talked about as limitations of his poems.
