국문 초록

목적 본 연구의 목적은 대학영어 교과연계 비교과 어휘 프로그램을 진행하여 그 효과와 학습자 만족도를 분석함으로써, 지금까지 연구가 부족했던 교과-비교과 학점연계 운영사례 제시를 통하여 대학의 비교과 프로그램 활성화 방안을 모색하고, 아울러 학생들의 어휘학습전략 함양을 통한 자기주도적 학습역량과 어휘력 향상에 기여하고자 하였다. 방법 이를 위하여, 본 비교과 어휘 프로그램은 효과적인 어휘학습전략으로 검증된 세 가지 전략—형태분석, 분산반복학습, 테스팅—을 조합하여 학습효과를 최대화하고, 대학의 비대면 교육 상황을 고려하여 다음의 내용들로 프로그램을 구성하였다: (1)LMS를 활용한 형태분석기반 어휘 동영상 강의를 제공하고, (2)Zoom 모니터링 환경에서 구글폼(Google Forms)을 활용한 온라인 어휘퀴즈를 1일 간격 3회 반복으로 제공하였다. 또한 어휘 동영상 강의수강 및 구글 온라인 어휘퀴즈 점수를 대학영어 과제점수에 포함하여, 교과-비교과 학점연계를 통해 학생들의 성실한 참여를 유도하였다. 사전-사후 어휘테스트와 사후 설문에 참여한 39명의 학생들의 자료가 분석되었다. 결과 대학영어 교과연계 비교과 어휘 프로그램은 학습자들의 어휘습득에 유의하고 높은 효과크기로 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 학습자들의 어휘학습전략 훈련을 통한 자기주도적 학습역량과 영어학습에 대한 동기와 자신감 향상에도 기여하였다. 학습자들은 본 비교과 어휘 프로그램에서 진행된 LMS 동영상 강의의 교육내용, 교수방법, 시간과 분량, Zoom과 구글링크를 이용한 평가방식, 교과-비교과 학점연계방식에 만족하였고, 이러한 비교과 프로그램이 지속적으로 시행되길 희망하였다. 결론 본 비교과 어휘 프로그램은, 교과-비교과 학점연계를 통해 비교과 프로그램 활성화에 효과적인 방안이 될 수 있음을 시사하며, 체계적인 어휘학습에 중점을 둔 비교과 프로그램의 구체적인 운영 모델을 처음으로 제시함으로써 향후 타 대학의 유사한 비교과 프로그램 운영에 참고자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study examines the effects of an online extracurricular English vocabulary program for improving EFL college students use of vocabulary learning strategies and vocabulary acquisition. Methods To maximize students performance, three effective vocabulary learning strategies—morphological analysis, spaced repetition, and testing—were incorporated in this program. Delivered in non-face-to-face educational settings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this program consisted of the following components: (1) online vocabulary lectures on morphological analysis via a learning management system, (2) three online vocabulary quizzes—one multiple choice, one short answer, one fill in the blank—administered over a 3-day period with 1-day intervals via Google Forms with Zoom monitoring. Students quiz scores contributed toward the overall grade of their college English course. This strengthened the links between the regular and extracurricular courses, and it was hoped this would encourage student participation. The data from 39 participants who completed pre- and post-tests of vocabulary and post-survey questionnaires were analyzed. Results Analyses revealed significant positive effects of the online extracurricular English vocabulary program on students vocabulary acquisition and use of vocabulary learning strategies. Participants reported their satisfaction with the online vocabulary lectures and quizzes. They also hoped that the program would continue because it helped them build vocabulary through providing effective strategies and increased their motivation and confidence. Conclusions This study is the first to provide a model of an extracurricular program for systematic vocabulary learning. The findings of this study are expected to be helpful resources for those conducting similar extracurricular programs in future educational settings.
