국문 초록

한국문학에서 자주 보이는 悼亡문학은 문화적 배경을 가지고 있다. 일반적으로 친밀한 이의 죽음은 모든 인간에게 강한 충격을 주고 격렬한 정서적 반응을 이끌어낸다. 이런 절망과 애석함은 각 시대별로 다양한 애도문학의 소재로 작용하였다. 특히 그 중에서 아내의 죽음을 애도하는 남편의 시인 悼亡妻詩는 한국문학 특유의 자기검열과 문화적 刪削의 과정을 겪고도 여전히 많은 수가 남아서 전해져 오고 있다. 이들 작품을 검토한 결과, 이 작품군은 아내의 죽음을 슬퍼하는 기본적인 태도 위에서, 자신의 그리움과 부부의 추억, 다시 인연이 이어지기를 기원하는 마음과 살아남은 자의 삶에 이르기까지 간절한 마음을 담아 창작되었다. 死別을 처음 당했을 때부터 마침내 진정된 현실이해까지 ‘哀 - 哀傷 - 哀而不傷’을 거쳐서 외로운 삶에 대한 자기이해에 이르는 것이다. 이러한 도망처시의 전통은 현대에 이르기까지 계속 이어지면서 한국문학에서 망자를 추모하는 문학이 가진 강한 감동력을 보여주고 있다. 悼亡문학은 亡妻에 대한 것만이 아니라 대상에 따라 수많은 변주를 가지고 있다. 가장 기본적으로는 가족과 친척에 대한 애도 작품일 것이며, 스승과 벗에 대한 애도문학 역시 다양하게 창작되었다. 전술한 바와 같이, 이 중에서 가족 특히 부부간의 애도를 표현한 작품들은 공식적인 출판과정에서 제거된 예가 많으므로 개별 문중과 개인이 소장하고 있는 문서를 확인하면 훨씬 많은 작품을 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 또한 문학의 형식에 따라서도 다양한 悼亡문학을 연구할 수 있을 것이다. 가장 흔한 형식으로는 祭文과 輓詞가 있고, 誄文과 哀詞의 형식을 가진 경우도 많다. 물론 悼亡詩도 자주 볼 수 있는 형식이고 때로는 行狀이나 誌碣 형식으로 된 애도문학도 많이 발견된다. 이런 전통을 가진 애도문학은 현대문학에서도 중요한 내용분류로 나타나고 있다. 지금까지도 꾸준히 지어지고 있는 애도문학은 시와 소설과 수필 각 영역에서 여러 가지 변주를 보이고 있으며, 앞으로도 이런 공감력은 유지될 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

Literature of mourning the deceased, frequently appearing in Korean literature, has cultural background. Generally, death of a close person gives severe impact to every human and draws out intense emotional responses. Such frustration and sorrow worked as materials for various literature of mourning in every era. Especially, a large number of Poems of Mourning the Deceased Wife(悼亡妻詩 ) are passed down even though these poems went through Korean distinctive self-censorship and cultural omission process. The study on these literary works demonstrates that these pieces were created with dearest heart of longing the partner, remembering cherishable moments as husband and wife, wishing to meet and be related again, and living the life alone, based on mourning attitude over wife s death. That is, from the moment the author lost his wife to the moment the author calmly comprehends the reality, the status flows from grief- hurt by deep grief - deep in grief but has self-control(悼亡妻詩) , and finally to the status where he embraces his lone life. Such tradition of poems of mourning the deceased wife has passed down until nowadays and shows strong touching impression that literature of mourning the deceased people has in Korean literature history. Literature mourning the loss has many different variations depending on who they are mourning for. The most basic variations would be works mourning the death of family and relatives, and works mourning for teachers and friends are also diversely created. As described above, a great number of works showing lamentation over loss of a family member, especially between spouses, were eliminated at publishing process, so when documents owned by individual people or each family clan were studied, many more work pieces could be found. Furthermore, it is possible to study the literary works mourning the deceased according to the form of literature. The most common forms are funeral oration and memorial writings, and many pieces had the form of funeral ode and lamentation writings. Obviously, poems of mourning the deceased are common form, and sometimes, forms of biography and inscription on gravestone are found as well. Literature mourning the deceased with such tradition still has significance in modern literature. Literature mourning the deceased is still being created and shows many different variations in each poem, novel, and essay forms, and such strength of sympathy in literary works will continue in the future.
