국문 초록

이 연구는 국내 대학의 외국인 대학원생이 한국어 능력 부족으로 인해 겪게 되는 학업 과정에서의 어려움을 살펴보고 이를 해결하기 위한 한국어 지원 방안을 구체적인 사례를 바탕으로 모색하였다. 먼저 국내 외국인 대학원생의 현황과 한국어 능력 충족 비율을 조사하여 대다수 외국인 대학원생의 한국어 능력이 입학 기준을 충족하지 못하고 있음을 확인하였다. 그리고 이로 인해 나타나는 문제점을 학위 취득 요건인 학위 과정 수료, 자격시험, 학위청구논문을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이어서 문제를 해결하기 위한 한국어 교육 현장의 실제적인 지원 방안으로 세종대학교 세종한국어 문화교육센터(SECKC)의 외국인 대학원생 대상 한국어 지원 프로그램 개설 사례를 소개하였다. 2016년 1학기부터 2018년 1학기까지 총 5학기의 운영 성과를 검토한 결과 해당 프로그램이 외국인 대학원생의 한국어 능력 부족으로 인한 학업 수행과 학위 취득의 어려움을 줄이는 데 긍정적인 효과가 있었음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study set out to investigate difficulties faced by foreign graduate students at South Korean universities in the learning process due to the lack of their Korean proficiency and search for Korean support solutions to them based on specific cases. For these purposes, the study first examined the current state of foreign graduate students in the nation and the percentage of those who met the criteria of Korean skills, finding that a majority of them failed to meet the admission criteria in terms of Korean skills. Their resulting problems were examined in the aspects of completing a degree course, one of requirements to get a degree, passing a qualifying examination, and submitting a dissertation. The study then introduced the case of the Korean Program at Sejong Education Center of Korean Culture(SECKC) of Sejong University as a practical support solution in the field of Korean education. By looking into programs targeting foreign graduate students that had been run since 2016 in terms of type, educational content, and management outcome, the study discussed specific and practical Korean support solutions for foreign graduate students that had not received attention in Korean Language education.
