개정토익 성적에 따른 대학생 영어 학습전략 비교

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생들의 토익점수에 따른 학습전략 차이를 조사하여 보다 효과적인 토익 지도방안과 학습전략을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 학습전략 연구 자료로서 7주간 기숙형 외국인 영어회화와 토익수업에 참가한 200명의 대학생들을 대상으로 한설문조사 결과를 사용하였다. 또한 2016년 5월 29일 이후 개정된 토익 점수를 상, 중, 하 집단으로 분류한 후 설문결과를 통계 분석하고 집단 간 학습전략에 어떤 차이가 있는지 알아보았다. 본 연구를 위해 세 가지 연구 질문을 구성하였으며, 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 토익점수별 학습전략과 문제해결방법의 차이에 대한 조사에서 6가지로 축약된 결과를 얻었다; 점수가 높을수록 문법을 듣기/읽기 학습과 병행하기; 단어를 구어체 표현으로 통째로 익히기; 듣기문제 풀 때 주제, 상황을 미리 짐작하기; 읽기문제에서 질문을 보고 답을 찾으며 읽기; 평소 실용문 읽기에 관심; 읽기에서 논리적 관계를 고려하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 응시횟수가 높을수록 학습전략에 차이가 있을 것인가에 대한 조사에서는 집단 간 유의미한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 어떤 학습전략이 토익 점수에 긍정적 영향을 주는가에 대한 회귀분석결과 4가지(듣기문제 풀 때 주제, 상황을 짐작하고 듣기, 읽기에서 논리적 연결 관계를 이해하기, 문법과 듣기/읽기 학습을 병행하기, 구어체 표현 단어를 통째로 익히기)의 유의미한 결론을 얻었다.

영문 초록

This study examines three research questions; first, whether there are any differences of TOEIC study strategy and problem-solving method according to students TOEIC scores; second, whether frequent TOEIC test taking has an influence on TOEIC study strategy; third, what TOEIC study strategies have a beneficial effect on TOEIC score. We had six results of the first question as follows; first, the students with higher TOEIC score study grammar while listening and reading practice; second, they memorize vocabulary reflected on authentic sentences rather than simple memorization; third, they think ahead topic through situation during listening comprehension; fourth, they read questions ahead of reading given passages; fifth, they try to read authentic reading in their real life; sixth, they figure out logically linked sentences in the reading passage. The result of the second question was that there were no significant difference between frequency of TOEIC test taking and TOEIC study strategy. Another analysis on what study strategies had a positive effect on TOEIC score showed four results; first, students with higher TOEIC score think ahead topic through situation during listening comprehension; second, they figure out logically linked sentences in the reading passage; third, they study grammar while listening and reading practice; fourth, they read authentic reading passages very often. With the results, there are some suggestions as follows; first, grammar should go together listening and reading study; second, it is important to acquire vocabulary in authentic expressions; third, the more often students encounter authentic reading passages like email, leaflet, and text message, the better TOEIC score they can get; fourth, it is necessary for the students to train to understand logically linked sentences while reading.
