외국인 유학생을 위한 학술적 글쓰기 교재 분석

국문 초록

본고에서는 외국인 유학생을 위한 학술적 글쓰기 교재를 검토하여 문장 쓰기와 단락 구성에 대한 교육 내용이 어떻게 선정·구성되었는지 분석하였다. 외국인 유학생을 위한 글쓰기 교재는 대학 공동체 안에서 이뤄지는 학문적 의사소통 방식을 다룬다는 점에서 일반 목적의 한국어 글쓰기 교재와 차별화되어야 한다. 그뿐만 아니라 외국인 유학생들에게 생소한 문법적 지식이나 표현 방법 등을 다룬다는 점에서 한국인 대학생을 위한 글쓰기 교재와도 달라야 할 것이다. 이에 본고에서는 기존 교재들에서 ‘학술적 공동체에서 사용되는 문장 쓰기와 단락 구성 방법’이라는 교육 내용을 ‘외국인 유학생’이라는 학습자의 특성에 맞게 제시하였는지를 중점적으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 먼저 2장에서는 글쓰기 교재의 전체 체계를 개괄하고, 3장과 4장에서는 각각 문장 쓰기와 단락 구성과 관련된 교육 내용을 분석할 것이다. 그리고 학습자들의 오류 특성과 요구를 고려할 때 어떤 교육 내용과 활동이 필요한지 생각해 보고, 학문 목적 글쓰기 교재에 이를 반영할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

In the present paper, academic writing textbooks for foreign students were reviewed to analyze the selection and construction of the contents of education on sentence writing and paragraph constructions. Writing textbooks for foreign students should be differentiated from general purpose Korean writing textbooks in that they address the methods of academic communication made in university communities. In addition, they should be different from writing textbooks for South Korean university students in that they address grammatical knowledge or expression methods that are unfamiliar to foreign students. Therefore, the present paper was intended to concentrate upon whether existing textbooks presented the educational content, ‘sentence writing and paragraph construction methods used in academic communities’ was presented to fit the characteristics of the learners, ‘foreign students.’ In addition, those educational contents and activities that are necessary considering the error characteristics and needs of the learners were considered and methods for reflection of the foregoing on academic purpose writing textbooks were proposed. As educational contents related to sentence writing, most textbooks contain responsive relationships of sentence components, how to use prepositions and endings, methods of extension/connection of sentences, how to use formal literary styles, and major sentence structures and expressions frequently used in academic writings. Related practice activities were mostly correcting sentences that contained errors or completing sentences utilizing major sentence structures and expressions that were presented. Educational contents related to paragraph writing were mostly the concept and construction of paragraphs and the unity and connectivity of paragraph and related practice activities were mainly reading and analyzing given texts. However, learning activities centered on error correction or sentence completing or learning activities centered on reading text analysis cannot be applied to actual writing processes. Therefore, sentence writing related education should be implemented toward enhancing the ability to create sentences that are structurally and semantically accurate and are suitable for academic writings and paragraph construction related education should be one that can enhance the ability to construct paragraphs equipped with unity and connectivity. Meanwhile education on sentence writing and paragraph constructions was not linked to but was separated from the stage of education on the procedures or processes of writing or writing practice stages by genre in many cases. Therefore, to make the ability to write sentence units grow into the ability to write paragraph units and the ability to complete a piece of academic writings, the composition and system of educational contents and educational material utilizing methods should be improved.
