국문 초록

본 연구에서는 C. G. Jung의 분석심리학 관점으로 본 제임스 앙소르(James Ensor, 1860~1949)의 생애와 예술 작품에 내재된 치료적 요인을 분석하고자 한다. 이에 분석심리학의 주요 개념인 자아(Ego), 페르조나(Persona), 아니마(Anima), 그림자(Shadow), 개성화(Individuation) 요인을 기준으로 구분하여 제시하였다. 제임스 앙소르는 예술 작업을 통해 의식과 무의식을 투사하여 자아(Ego)의 심리를 대변하였으며, 내적 슬픔과 상처들로 인한 깊은 무의식의 심상을 이미지로 나타냈다. 표면적인 표상 아래 해학적 요소를 첨부하였고, 환영, 파괴, 멸시 등의 주제를 드러냄으로서 페르조나(Persona)를 작품 세계에 투영하였다. 또한 분노와 위협적인 감정들을 해골 이미지에 투사하여 억압되고 열등한 그림자(Shadow)를 표현하였고, 이를 보상하는 정신 요소의 아니마(Anima), 즉 긍정과 부정의 두 가지 측면에 대응하는 무의식의 내적 인격을 묘사하였다. 그러나 그는 의식의 영역을 확장하여 정신 요소를 통합하는 개성화(Individuation) 과정을 작품으로 드러냈다. 창조적인 예술 작업을 통해 내재된 갈등 요인들을 극복하였고 삶을 재조명하였다. 그리하여 치유적인 행위를 바탕으로 내면을 통찰함에 따라 분열된 자아를 통합할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

We aimed to analyze the therapeutic factors inherent in the life and works of art by James Ensor (1860-1949) from C. G. Jung s analytical psychology perspective. The main concepts of analytical psychology were classified according to Ego, Persona, Anima, Shadow, and Individuation. James Ensor, through his artistic work, projected consciousness and unconsciousness to represent the Ego, and expressed an image of unconsciousness caused by internal sorrows and injuries. He attached a humorous element under the superficial representation to the work and projected the Persona by revealing themes such as illusion, destruction, and contempt. In addition, the artworks expressed suppressed and inferior Shadows by projecting anger and threatening emotions on the image of the skull. As Anima of the mental element, it described the inner personality of the unconscious corresponding to two aspects of affirmation and denial. Nevertheless, James Ensor exposed the process of Individuation, which integrated mental elements by expanding the realm of consciousness. He overcame the inherent conflicts through creative artworks and re-examined his life. Therefore, by inserting insights on the basis of healing actions, he was able to integrate the divisive self.
