탐구공동체 기반 비판적 문식성 교육 프로그램 개발과 적용 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 탐구공동체를 기반으로 한 비판적 문식성 교육을 위한 프로그램을 개발·적용하여 학생들의 변화를 알아보고자 한다. 방법 연구를 위해 성별과 연령에 차이를 두어 이질적 집단으로 구성한 초등학생 5명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였다. 탐구공동체를 기반한 비판적 문식성 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 학생들의 문화자본을 고려한 가족, 외모, 친구, 성역할, 고정관념, 다문화, 부모, 학업, 직업을 주제로 총 10주간 적용하였다. 결과 적용 결과, 첫째, 텍스트에 내재 된 권력 구조와 사회 문제를 인식하고 사회·문화적 실천을 위한 실천 방안을 모색하는 비판적 문식 능력의 변화가 있었다. 둘째, 공동체 구성원이 수평적 관계에서 서로의 의견을 존중하는 수용적 태도 변화와 타자와의 대화뿐만 아니라 텍스트 안과 밖을 오가며 텍스트와의 대화를 이어가는 탐구적 대화 능력의 변화가 있었다. 마지막으로 어떠한 하나의 가치에 대해 고정된 이분법적인 사고에서 벗어나 다른 사람의 다양한 가치를 수용하여 유연한 가치를 갖는 가치관의 변화가 관찰되었다. 결론 이러한 결과는 학생들의 문화자본을 고려한 주제와 텍스트를 선정하여 수준에 맞는 프로그램을 적용한다면 초등학생들도 비판적 문식성 교육이 가능하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 비판적 문식성 교육을 위해서는 공동체 구성원들 간의 탐구적 대화 과정을 통해 문제 해결 방안을 찾고 실천으로 나아가는 탐구공동체 활동이 적합함을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study aims to develop and implement a programme for critical literacy education based on an inquisitive community and examine the changes in students. Methods Five elementary school students were selected to participate in the study, representing a heterogeneous group with gender and age differences. An inquisitive community-based critical literacy education programme was developed and applied for a total of 10 weeks on the topics of family, appearance, friends, gender roles, stereotypes, multiculturalism, parents, academics, and careers, taking into account students' cultural capital. Results As a result of the application, first, there was a change in critical literacy ability to recognise power structures and social issues embedded in texts and to seek action for socio-cultural practice; second, there was a change in receptive attitudes, where community members respect each other's opinions in horizontal relationships; and third, there was a change in inquisitive dialogue ability, where they engage in dialogue not only with others but also with texts, moving in and out of texts. Finally, a change in values was observed, moving away from a fixed dichotomy of one set of values to a more flexible set of values, accepting the diverse values of others. Conclusions These results suggest that critical literacy education is feasible for elementary school students if topics and texts are selected that take into account students' cultural capital, and if the programme is adapted to their level. Furthermore, critical literacy education is best suited to inquiry communities, where problem-solving and action are developed through a process of inquisitive dialogue among community members.
