대학생 자퇴의향 분석

국문 초록

목적 이 연구의 목적은 대학생 자퇴의향에 대한 Tinto의 학생통합 요인과 함께 학교 특성, 학생 특성, 학생의 사회·경제적 여건 관련 변인들의 예측력를 확인하고, 1학년과 2학년에 따라 유의한 예측변수에서 차이가 있는지를 살펴보는 것이다. 방법 한국교육개발원의 ｢2021 대학 교수·학습 과정에 관한 설문조사(NASEL)｣의 일반대학 1학년과 2학년 28,353명의 자료를 활용하여, 자퇴의향을 종속변인으로, 학교 특성 및 학생 특성, 학생통합 요인 등을 예측변인으로 하는 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 결과 분석 결과 1학년은 비수도권 대규모, 비수도권 중소규모인 경우, 예체능계열, 아버지 학력이 석사 이상일 때, 자퇴의향을 가질 가능성이 높은 반면 의약계열, 능동적 학습 경험, 기초학습능력에 대한 자기평가, 동아리·학생회 활동 및 학내 구성원과의 상호작용이 높을수록 자퇴의향은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 2학년은 수도권 대규모가 아닌 경우, 성별이 남성인 경우에 자퇴의향을 가질 가능성이 높은 반면 사회계열, 공학계열, 의약계열, 예체능계열인 경우, 월 평균 가구소득이 150-300만원인 경우, 협력 학습경험과 기초학습에 대한 자기평가가 높은 경우에 자퇴의향이 낮게 나타났다. 결론 자퇴의향에 대한 예측변인의 유의성이 대학교 1학년과 2학년에 따라 차이가 있음을 밝히고, 이러한 결과를 토대로 자퇴 예방과 교육의 기회균등을 위한 개인과 대학, 교육당국의 재정적·행정적 정책지원의 필요성과 이를 위한 시사점을 제공하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to explore differences between first and second year of college students' dropout intention related to university characteristics, student characteristics, and students' social and economic conditions, along with Tinto's student integration factor. Methods The National Assessment of Student Engagement in Learning data collected by the Korean Educational Development Institute(KEDI) in 2021 were used. The number of participants were 28,353 students of four-year universities. A logistic regression analysis was conducted. Results First-year students attending universities non-metropolitan area had a higher intention to dropout, but second-year students attending universities small size in the metropolitan area also did. Dropout intention was lower when first-year students were in the medication field, and for second-year students when they were in the social sciences, engineering, medicine, or arts and physical sciences fields, compared to those in the humanities. For both year students, when active or collaborative learning and self-evaluation of basic learning abilities was high, the dropout intention was low. Additionally, the first-year students, extracurricular activities and high inter-action with peers lowered the dropout intention. Conclusions Dropout intention differs depending on the first and second year of university, and based on the re-sults, the need for financial and administrative policy support from individuals, universities, and educational au-thorities to prevent dropout and equal educational opportunities
